The assistant was momentarily stumped by the unexpected praise, unsure of what to say.
Emma stood up. "For the time being, go to the hospital and take care of Levi. Make sure he recovers quickly. By the time he's back, I'll have a new proposal ready. We have enough time."
As if seeing a ray of hope, the assistant immediately nodded happily. "Understood. I'll head to the hospital right away."
By that afternoon, news of CFT's stolen bid samples had spread everywhere. Since so many people were asking about it, Emma just posted an update on her socials, brushing it off as a minor issue.
Some people were gloating, waiting to see her get reprimanded by headquarters.
Others were genuinely worried that she'd be held accountable.
Meanwhile, Emma, the girl currently in the eye of the storm, had gone to a bar to unwind.
"Emma, are you really not worried at all?"
Scarlett asked, looking over at her.
Then she froze.
Now she was starting to worry.
There were male models dancing on the bar's stage, and her sister-in-law was watching them with rapt attention.
"E-Emma..."
Scarlett tugged at her sleeve. Emma finally snapped out of it. "Nothing to worry about. Both Julian and Travis are looking into it. They'll find out what happened sooner or later. Even if we can't recover the samples, swapping in another research project for the bid works just the same."
The national project review board was evaluating their lab equipment and research staff, not heavily scrutinizing the specific drug they submitted.
CFT had so many concurrent research projects every year; they truly didn't care if one or two went missing.
Besides... nothing had actually been stolen yet.
"Emma, you should probably start worrying now."
Scarlett's gaze shifted to the door, where Carter was glaring at her with a deep, displeased frown.
"I asked you to take Emma out to relax, and you bring her here?"
Carter's voice was freezing cold. The entire private booth went dead silent in an instant, even the male models who had been dancing.
