Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 293

Hearing this, Carter's eyes darkened.

He couldn't exactly say that because he didn't want an arranged marriage, the family chose Percy, who seemed to have the best temper, right?

If he and his parents hadn't rejected the marriage back then, Emma would never have had to endure all those hardships abroad.

Thinking about it only filled Carter with guilt. He pressed his lips together and changed the subject.

"Why the sudden interest in the engagement?"

Emma lowered her eyes to hide her guilty conscience. If she mentioned that she was suspecting Raymond again, Carter would probably be upset.

"Nothing, just asking."

Emma brushed it off casually, but Carter couldn't help overthinking it.

Percy had just shown up, and now she was bringing up the arranged marriage. This didn't feel right at all.

"I'm heading to the hospital in a bit to see Phoebe."

Carter mentioned his plans. Emma stood up straight and asked, "Seeing her?"

"The police are investigating the gas explosion. Although there's no proof it was intentional, Phoebe's kidnapping has drawn a lot of attention. She's giving her statement at the hospital today."

A hint of slyness flashed in Carter's eyes as he asked, "Do you want to come listen?"

Emma immediately nodded. Of course she did.

Carter casually reached into the shopping bags he had brought back that morning, pulling out a spacious designer handbag, and slipped the thermos inside.

"I thought about picking up more pads for you this morning, but I asked around, and they don't sell your brand here."

Carter spoke frankly. Emma paused for a second before laughing. "They don't sell it domestically. It's a CFT product, currently only available overseas."

Carter frowned in distress. What was she supposed to do then?

"I still had some in my suitcase. I've already put them in my bag."

Emma patted her small purse. The pads were packed in a private compartment of her suitcase. The fact that he didn't find them meant he hadn't snooped around while looking for her clothes.

This earned Carter quite a few points in Emma's heart.

Carter easily slipped her small purse into the large handbag he was holding, naturally carrying the women's bag that clashed completely with his aesthetic.

Meanwhile, Gillian was also on her way to the hospital.

Gillian's arm was wrapped in bandages. She had been a bit too slow while escaping yesterday and caught the edge of the explosion, injuring her arm.

"Give me a jacket. I don't want anyone noticing my injury and getting suspicious."

Wearing a revealing slip dress, Gillian nervously clutched her arm.

"Hiding it will only draw more attention. Besides, don't you like the dress I bought you?"

Tobias reached out and twirled a lock of her hair. His suggestive tone made the driver instinctively glance at the rearview mirror.

Gillian awkwardly tried to pull away, but Tobias yanked her into his arms with even more force.

While Emma was treated like royalty, having everything handed to her on a silver platter, Gillian had been beaten, humiliated, and tortured just for money.

She hated her.

While Tobias's car was filled with raw intimacy, the atmosphere in Carter's car was completely different.

Emma was curled up in the passenger seat. Perhaps due to soaking in the water for too long yesterday, her cramps were exceptionally brutal today.

"Will this help?"

Carter draped a cashmere blanket over Emma, sliding closer to her. He placed his large hand over the blanket, gently rubbing her stomach.

"There are heat patches in the bag. Put one on before we get out,"

Carter reminded her. Emma let out a soft laugh and looked at him. "You know an awful lot about this, Carter. Not exactly the behavior of a guy who's never dated."

"I'm just lucky I have a sister."

That morning, he had intentionally woken up Scarlett before she was even out of bed, spending several minutes on the phone interrogating her about what girls needed during their time of the month.

He had done his homework very seriously.

Emma smiled, though for some reason, Gillian came to mind.

Her expression gradually turned serious. She adjusted her posture, pulled out her phone, and texted Levi.

[Levi, find a way to dig deeper into Gillian's life before she returned to the Lockwood family. I don't believe we can't find a single trace.]
