Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 294

Upon arriving at the hospital, Gillian was about to step out of the car but was pulled back by Tobias.

Tobias looked through the car window into the parking lot. Carter and Emma were walking toward the elevators.

"Looks like your plans were a total failure."

Carter's deliberate yet natural affection made it obvious that their relationship hadn't suffered in the slightest.

Watching Carter's tender demeanor, Gillian gripped the door handle in furious resentment.

Why?

Why on earth?

How did a thief like Emma deserve such a happy, perfect life?

"The best way to destroy a woman is to ruin her reputation,"

Tobias reminded her.

Gillian forced herself to calm down. "Even without Travis and Timothy, she still has Carter and Julian by her side. And one of her senior sisters has returned to the country. It's too tricky."

Emma's backing was incredibly powerful. The people around her had built an impenetrable fortress.

"Then it depends on how well you play those two pieces."

Tobias spoke with profound meaning, and Gillian's eyes darkened thoughtfully.

"Julian's parents are abroad, right?"

An idea began to form in her mind. Tobias's large hand stroked her back. "I'll help you."

Emma and Carter arrived outside Phoebe's hospital room just as the police were finishing taking her statement.

"Did you get anything out of her?"

Carter asked. The officer shook his head. "She claims she was unconscious. When she woke up, she was in the abandoned club and doesn't know anything else."

Emma frowned slightly. The officer added, "With her being this uncooperative, there's not much we can do."

"Understood. Thanks for your hard work."

After the police left, Emma looked at Carter curiously. "Should they really be disclosing statement details to uninvolved parties?"

"I donated millions of dollars to rebuild the explosion site and compensate the nearby businesses. I'm also investing tens of millions to redesign that commercial street. So, I am very much an involved party."

Carter was single-handedly covering all the losses from the explosion. He was merely asking about a statement; no one was going to hide it from him.

"Emma, please. They can't find the culprit anyway, so let's just drop this."

Phoebe pleaded. Emma let out a cold scoff.

"Carter and dozens of SWAT officers were almost killed in that explosion. The surrounding businesses were dragged into it and suffered massive losses. You want to let it go just because they can't find the culprit?

You're the victim of the kidnapping. What gives you the right to drop the case on behalf of the victims of the explosion?"

Emma's face was icy. The fallout from this incident was massive; how could it be brushed under the rug with a simple "let it go"?

"Get some rest."

Emma turned and walked out. Since the kidnapping happened near the hospital, there had to be security footage.

She just needed Carter to nudge the police in that direction.

"Emma, listen to my advice. If you stay in the country, more people are going to get hurt. Ever since you came back, accidents have been happening left and right. I'm urging you to leave the country for your own good. Some truths really aren't that important."

Emma paused her steps. Clutching her wound, Phoebe knew Emma wasn't one to give up easily, but it was obvious that staying in the country was far too dangerous for her.

She tried a different angle, continuing her persuasion:

"Do you really need to stand on a pile of bloody bones before you give up? What good is knowing the truth then? Isn't that just cruel?"
