Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 296

The first thing Emma did upon returning to Capital City was visit the Second Metropolitan Hospital.

"I'd like to visit Violet Jennings."

She checked in at the nurses' station, but the nurse asked her to wait a moment.

Not long after, the nurse returned, bringing Logan with her.

"Come here."

Logan spoke flatly. He didn't take her to the VIP ward; instead, he led her to the hospital's terrace.

"Why are you here?"

Logan's gaze was distant, carrying a noticeable chill.

Emma pressed her lips together. "Do you not believe me either?"

"I don't think you did it. The doctor said the heavy blow to the back of her head was likely due to her previous illness causing complications, leading to a hypoglycemic fainting spell.

I also asked the police. They haven't ruled out the possibility that she fainted on her own, knocked over the plant stand, and hit her head on the vase."

Although Logan found the explanation a bit too coincidental, it was the most logical one available.

He was confident that Emma wouldn't lash out in a fit of rage and strike Violet just because she found out she wasn't a biological Lockwood daughter.

But during the time Emma had left and returned, no one else had entered the private room. He had verified this with the waiters.

So the only explanation was that Violet had fainted due to her illness, causing the accident herself.

"Since you believe I didn't do it, let me go see her."

Emma was still deeply worried about her. After all, she knew now that Violet was her biological mother—a poor woman who had been deceived for twenty-three years, kept in the dark, and played like a fiddle by someone hiding in the shadows.

"I don't think your visit will make her condition improve."

Logan's thin lips pressed into a hard line. It was impossible to say he didn't harbor any resentment toward her.

If Emma hadn't insisted on that DNA test, Violet wouldn't have dragged her sick body out of the house in the first place.

Even if she wasn't the attacker, she was still the catalyst for the accident.

"Vance Group recently released some advanced monitoring equipment. I'll arrange for some to be sent over later."

Emma actually wanted to move Violet abroad for treatment, but she knew Gillian and the rest of the Lockwood family would never agree, so she had to settle for the next best thing.

Logan didn't refuse. Instead, he pushed the hospital room door open with one hand.

"Don't tell anyone you were here. Especially not Gillian."

Emma paused, looking at Logan, and asked, almost unable to hold back:

"Logan, if Gillian and I were both your biological sisters, would you still say that right now?"

Logan answered without a second of hesitation. "Yes. Even if you were my biological sister, Gillian will always be the most special one."

Emma's heart sank, but before she had time to feel sad, the monitors connected to Violet began to beep.

Logan immediately rushed out in a panic to call the doctor. Emma was equally stunned.

Was she waking up?
