Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 298

Without waiting to see Terrance's reaction, Carter signaled for Jeff to escort their guest out.

Terrance felt utterly miserable. The fact that Carter had personally come out to walk them to the elevator meant the deal was practically sealed. Now, it had completely vanished over a few stupid words from his son.

The more Terrance thought about it on the way out, the angrier he got. When he caught up with Tyler, he couldn't help but kick him in the shin.

"Dad! What are you doing?"

Spoiled rotten at home, Tyler still didn't think he had done anything wrong.

Seeing his son's defiant look, Terrance was so furious his chest ached. "What am I doing? The deal with the Harrington family is dead! What do you think I'm doing?"

Tyler froze.

"No way. Our tech is the best in the country. Carter has no reason not to work with us."

Terrance scoffed coldly. "You don't know shit. If Carter wanted to, he could replace us at any second."

Terrance was beside himself with frustration. "You knew damn well Emma is Carter's wife. Why did you have to go and provoke her?"

"Dad, you don't know the kind of relationship Emma has with Timothy behind closed doors..."

"Enough. Stay out of this business. Don't you love screwing around? Just go find your deadbeat friends."

Hearing him bring up his illegitimate son made Terrance feel a twinge of guilt, but it also sparked a few ideas.

Tyler curled his lip dismissively, turned around, and walked away.

As he walked, he dialed his phone. "Tobias, didn't you just arrive in Capital City? Let's go grab a drink."

Inside the office, Emma was standing by the coffee machine, looking as though she wanted to say something but was holding back.

Carter tapped a few things on his phone, then walked over to her.

"You shouldn't drink too much coffee during your period. If you're thirsty, I can have the secretary bring you something else."

Emma placed a hand over his. She finished making a cup of coffee and handed it to Carter.

"I'm not drinking it. It's for you."

Pleasantly surprised, Carter took it. The coffee he usually found bitter suddenly tasted remarkably sweet.

Emma pressed her lips together and gently pushed Carter to sit on the sofa.

Hearing her say this, Carter's heart actually swelled with happiness.

"You're my wife."

As soon as the words left his mouth, he saw Emma's large, round eyes staring back at him. He immediately backpedaled, "Even if it's just a partnership, to the outside world, we're a real married couple.

If you promise something, I'll naturally take care of it. We are a team. This is what I should do."

Carter sounded perfectly professional, but internally, it was a completely different story.

He would've loved to see the look on Emma's face when she agreed to the deal—that absolute confidence of a woman who knew she called the shots in the Harrington family must have been incredibly captivating.

"But the fact remains that Harrington Corporation will take a hit. I'll do my best to make it up to you."

Carter suppressed his leaping heart, forcing a calm and composed expression.

He reached out, pulling Emma down to sit beside him, and turned to whisper seemingly casually by her ear,

"If you want to compensate me, how about letting me come over to your place tonight?"
