Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 299

Carter's ambiguous suggestion left Emma slightly stunned for a second.

"I'm just teasing. I know exactly what Julian is trying to do. Go back with him for now; I'll handle things on the Harrington side."

Carter escorted Emma all the way to the front doors of the building, waiting until she got in the car and drove off before heading back inside.

He finished his remaining work and returned to the Harrington estate that very day.

During breakfast the next morning, he appeared in the dining room.

"Mom, if you're not busy today, bring some gifts and head over to the Vance estate."

As soon as Carter spoke, Jeff walked in carrying the prepared items.

His mother nodded. "I'll grab your father after we eat. But aren't you coming with us?"

"I am."

What Julian wanted was to see the Harrington family's attitude. There was no reason Carter would send his parents and not go himself.

Arriving late to the table, Adeline Harrington scoffed in displeasure upon hearing this.

"Making such a grand spectacle just to invite her back? Where does that leave the Harrington family's dignity?"

Carter set his utensils down, his voice dropping low, but his mother stopped him. She looked at her mother-in-law and said, "Adeline, going on a hunger strike to force your grandson into a divorce is quite the rare spectacle for a prestigious family as well."

"Are you criticizing me?" Adeline glared at her.

His mother wiped her mouth with a napkin, speaking with slow, deliberate poise. "In terms of personal capability, Emma is a genius. She's more than a match for Carter. As for her background and connections, doesn't the fact that our family just lost a national-level project prove the point?"

His mother saw things very clearly now. The Reynolds family, the Vance family, and even the Shaw family—their fierce protection of Emma was never just for show.

The Harrington family might dominate domestically, but that didn't mean these other forces were any weaker.

"Let the younger generation handle their own affairs. Regardless of whose daughter Emma is, as long as Carter loves her, she is my daughter-in-law. You don't have to accept her. As long as our immediate family does, that's enough."

She had no interest in all the complicated politics. She only believed in one simple truth:

Nothing in this world was more important than her son's happiness.

Adeline was too furious to eat. She spun around and stormed off in a rage.

"Emma, there's a serious problem at the club. Before Mr. Morton left, he said to notify you if we ran into anything we couldn't handle. What should we do..."

Emma sat up straight, rubbing her temples. "What happened?"

"Sylvia Moore booked out the entire club last night. Her crowd is usually pretty wild, but somehow, there was a security breach. Someone secretly recorded a bunch of videos and is threatening to leak them.

You know the kind of families these people come from. Now they're storming the club, demanding we either take the fall or fix it."

Emma sighed. She thought it was going to be an actual crisis.

"I'll have someone head over to deal with it."

The moment she finished speaking, the phone on the other end was snatched away.

Tyler's voice came through the speaker.

"Emma, if those videos get out, do you think my little brother will ever be able to show his face in this country again? Honestly, even if he flees abroad, someone will probably put a bounty on his head."

"Either that useless brother of mine comes out and explains himself, or you come down here and fix it. You've got exactly one hour to decide what to do."
