After finishing her lunch with Carter, Emma dove back into her work.
CFT Pharma was fully constructed, complete with state-of-the-art research laboratories she had personally outfitted.
On the day of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, practically every major elite in the capital was in attendance.
The sheer scale of the event was just as grand as the day Emma returned to the country for her engagement.
Naturally, the banquet attracted a few uninvited guests as well.
"It's the ribbon-cutting for CFT, and you didn't even send our family an invitation. Do you even respect me as your father!"
Charles cornered Emma backstage, barking at her furiously.
Emma couldn't help but laugh.
"I recall you explicitly saying outside the police station that you weren't my father."
Charles looked momentarily embarrassed but quickly doubled down. "Are you really going to hold a grudge forever over a few angry words from your father?"
"Spit it out. You brought the whole family here. What exactly do you want from me?"
Emma had zero patience for small talk with him. If Charles took the initiative to seek her out, it was undoubtedly for profit.
True to form, Charles lowered his voice and got to the point.
"I heard you have a luxury car worth millions, and it's already appreciated in value."
Emma stared at him with a pleasant smile, but the piercing, mocking glint in her eyes made Charles squirm uncomfortably.
"The Lockwoods are in trouble right now. Sell the car."
Emma rested her chin on her hand, looking at him with an air of absolute boredom. "I'll have someone transfer twenty thousand dollars to you later. It covers the fifteen thousand Violet sent me during my two years abroad, and the rest is interest."
"Twenty thousand? What the hell is twenty thousand going to do?" Charles glared at her in outrage. She thought she could dismiss him with pennies?
Emma raised an eyebrow in mock realization. "Ah, right. Violet did occasionally send me a few hundred here and there afterward."
She opened her wallet, dug around, and pulled out a pristine bank card.
"But I had already stopped using this account by then. I haven't touched a single cent of the money sent after that. You can have this back too."
