Emma sat in the restaurant. She held the water the waiter had brought but didn't take a sip, keeping her gaze fixed on the window.
"This is a complimentary coffee from our shop."
The masked waiter brought over a cup of hot coffee. Emma politely thanked him.
Hiding in the shadows, Harvey watched her drink the coffee, a sleazy smirk creeping onto his face.
"Wait until she passes out, then take her out the back door."
Emma waited for quite a long time, but Phoebe still hadn't shown up. She frowned and stood up, only to feel a wave of physical discomfort wash over her.
"Are you feeling unwell? Come rest with us for a moment."
The waiter stepped forward to support her. Emma's face turned cold. "Don't touch me."
She had already realized there was something in that cup of coffee.
This restaurant was no longer safe.
Emma tried to run out, but Harvey, his expression dark, walked straight toward her.
"You catch on fast, but it's useless."
Emma was incredibly dizzy, her entire body so weak she could barely stand.
"Emma, you acted all high and mighty back in high school, and you're still doing it now. But we'll see how high and mighty you can be after this."
Harvey and the waiter pretended to support her, but they were forcefully dragging her toward the back door.
Emma bit her lip, biting down hard. Instantly, a bright patch of crimson bloomed on her pink lips.
A ruthless glint flashed in her eyes. Without the two men noticing, she whipped out the steak knife she had just concealed on her person.
"Get the hell out of my way."
With one swift slash, Harvey's friend grabbed the shallow cut on his neck, instantly frightened out of his wits.
When did Emma become this fierce?
Harvey was startled too, instinctively letting go of Emma to put some distance between them.
He narrowed his eyes, looking at her holding the knife in a reverse grip, his expression turning solemn.
Emma was actually trained.
"Get out now, and I'll pretend today never happened."
She leaned against the nearest table. Her consciousness was blurring, and she was on the verge of collapsing...
Harvey stared at her menacingly, letting out a dark chuckle as he closed in. "Haven't seen you in a few years, and your temper has gotten fiery. Good. That's exactly my type these days."
He reached out to touch Emma's face. Emma instinctively struck back, but due to the drugs, she couldn't muster any real force.
But in the next second, he heard Emma speak in a mocking tone.
"This isn't exactly the first time I've run into this kind of situation. But no one has ever succeeded. And those who tried to pull this kind of stunt mostly disappeared without a trace. Can you guess why?"
Her smile looked so innocent, but it made an inexplicable chill run down Harvey's spine.
He instinctively tightened his grip on Emma's chin. Yet, to his eyes, the person who should have been terrified only deepened her smile.
"You should consider yourself lucky that you did a lot of good deeds in your past life, so you got to reincarnate in this country."
The moment Emma's words fell, the front doors of the restaurant were kicked open.
A group of bodyguards in black suits stormed in. Without a word, they yanked Harvey and his buddy away. Just as the two men were about to scream, they were gagged and knocked out cold, not even given a fraction of a second to react.
"Ms. Lockwood, we're taking you to the hospital."
One of the bodyguards spoke with concern, but Emma showed resistance to his approach.
"Stay away from me."
The bodyguard was caught in a dilemma. They couldn't just leave things like this.
Just as they were about to knock Emma out themselves, Carter arrived.
"Emma!"
