Jabez Shelby's expression was unreadable as his gaze fell on Yvette Yeats. Slowly, he extended a hand toward her.

When his long, elegant fingers appeared in her line of sight, Yvette didn't move a muscle.

Surprise flickered in the eyes of the surrounding guests.

After the Yeats family had fallen on hard times, the Shelbys hadn't offered a shred of support in the business world. Everyone had assumed the two families had severed ties completely.

But judging by Sybil's warm attitude toward the Yeats family today, it seemed their bond was still incredibly tight.

Sybil's heart sank a little. Yvette had always been a girl who prioritized the bigger picture, yet here she was, leaving Jabez hanging in front of a room full of Kingsbrook's elite.

It was a glaring sign of just how determined she was to push through with the divorce.

The banquet hall, which had been buzzing with lively chatter moments before, was now so dead silent you could hear a pin drop. The crowd collectively held their breath, secretly sweating on Yvette's behalf.

She was the first person who had ever dared to disrespect Jabez so publicly.

But a closer look at the CEO's face revealed zero irritation. He simply waited for her, quiet and steady.

Finally, Sybil reached out, gently taking Yvette's hand and placing it into Jabez's palm.

Yvette pressed her lips together. Under Sybil's watchful gaze, she didn't pull away.

She couldn't afford to let the older woman see the cracks in their marriage right now.

The two of them stepped onto the dance floor.

Instantly, all eyes shifted in unison to Willow Huxley.

As Mr. Shelby's publicly acknowledged girlfriend, she was being forced to watch her boyfriend whisk another woman away for a dance.

Everyone expected to see seething jealousy and bitter resentment on her face, but there was none of it. She kept smiling, the picture of grace and poise.

It made sense, the crowd reasoned. Jabez spoiled Ms. Huxley rotten. Dancing with Ms. Yeats was clearly just a formality out of respect for the Yeats matriarch.

In reality, Willow was practically swallowing glass. She hated Yvette to her core, yet she couldn't let a single sliver of that venom show.

Charlotte Clark strolled up to Willow, her tone dripping with unconcealed triumph.

The deep, magnetic rumble of his voice came from above. The words were a question of care, but his tone was completely devoid of warmth.

"Much better. Thanks for asking."

Jabez looked down, but because of the angle, he could only see the dark, silken crown of her hair, not her expression. Even so, the sheer apathy in her voice made it brutally clear that she had zero interest in talking to him.

Out of the corner of her eye, Yvette caught sight of Willow. She turned her head slightly to look.

Willow was glaring at her with cold, daggers-drawn intensity—as if Yvette were the homewrecker trying to steal someone else's husband.

Yvette found it bitterly hilarious.

Suddenly, she leaned in closer to Jabez, keeping her peripheral vision locked on Willow. Sure enough, Willow's face darkened even further.

Clearly caught off guard by her sudden proximity, a flicker of surprise crossed his face before he let out a low, quiet chuckle.

"Did you invite the Huxleys?" Yvette tilted her head up, studying his expression intently.
