The mandatory waiting period for the divorce would take another month. By then, she'd be over three months along and starting to show.

If he noticed anything, getting a divorce would be nearly impossible.

She had to act quickly.

The moment the call connected, Yvette immediately spoke. "Jabez..."

"Ms. Yeats, he's in the shower," Willow's smug voice drifted through the receiver. "Unless it's something incredibly urgent, I'd appreciate it if you didn't interrupt us. As a woman, you should know something about personal boundaries."

Before Yvette could even get a word in, the line went dead.

"Ha." She stared at the screen, unable to hold back a laugh.

Willow's tone basically implied that Yvette was the side chick.

If that woman knew she was calling to finalize the divorce, she would probably be sick with regret.

Pushing the thought aside, Yvette stepped into the restoration lab and threw herself entirely into her work.

Friday afternoon.

After a quick lunch, Yvette drove over to the Shelby Group headquarters.

Standing at the entrance, she looked up at the towering skyscraper.

It had only been a little over a month, yet it felt like a lifetime ago that she had worked here.

She walked inside, instinctively heading toward the elevators out of habit.

She barely took two steps before someone grabbed her wrist.

Turning around, she saw a young woman in her twenties wearing a Shelby Group receptionist badge.

"I'm sorry, Miss," the young woman said, letting go of her wrist. "You aren't an employee here. Do you have an appointment?"

Yvette frowned and shook her head. "No, I don't."

"Without an appointment, I can't let you up." The receptionist gestured politely toward the waiting area. "You're welcome to wait in the lobby."

Having been an employee herself, Yvette had no intention of making the girl's job difficult.

She pulled out her phone and dialed Jabez's number, only to be greeted by a cold, automated voice.

"He didn't come in today. You shouldn't wait," the receptionist whispered, leaning in slightly.

Yvette nodded, standing up. "Thank you. I'll get going, then."

She left the building and headed back to the Azure Atelier.

Charlotte came looking for her, dropping heavily into a chair. "Matthew is reporting to Solstice Auctions on Monday. He told me to keep an eye on the Atelier with you."

Yvette paused what she was doing. She still hadn't opened the envelope Eleanor Stern had given her.

She had no idea what was inside.

"Yvette?" Charlotte waved a hand in front of her face. "What are you spacing out about?"

Yvette told her about the envelope.

Charlotte's face lit up with excitement. "I bet it's a second chance pass or an advancement token for the competition! You need to open it right away."

"Alright." Yvette smiled, amused that her friend was more thrilled than she was.
