"I want to draw," Nola answered in her sweet, babyish voice.

"Okay."

The three of them walked over to the drawing area. Yvette put on an apron and then helped Nola into a tiny one.

Milton set down his bag and put on an apron as well.

It instantly gave him a domestic, fatherly charm.

Yvette scanned the art supplies. Colored pencils, watercolors, and gouache weren't ideal for a kid Nola's age.

Ultimately, she grabbed a set of markers.

"Are you in school yet, Nola? Do you know how to hold a pen?"

"Yes, I do! I'm really good at it," Nola said, lifting her little chin proudly.

Yvette clapped and showered her with praise. Nola grew shy and leaned back against Milton's chest.

Milton's lips curved into a smile as he picked her up and set her on a chair.

"What do you want to draw today?"

"I want to draw stars," Nola said crisply. "They say when people die, they become stars. I know my mommy is the brightest, most sparkling star up there."

Yvette froze, a sharp ache piercing her heart.

She gently stroked the little girl's head, her voice incredibly soft. "Okay. I'll help you draw the brightest, most sparkling star."

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Milton spacing out. Looking up, she saw the lingering sorrow in his eyes.

He was probably thinking about his late brother and sister-in-law.

Yvette withdrew her gaze and selected a few appropriate colors.

As a restorer, drawing was second nature to her.

In no time, she sketched a beautiful night sky.

The sky was dotted with stars, but the brightest one was right in the center, impossible to miss.

On a grassy hill, a tiny silhouette stood looking up at that brightest star.

Nola was thrilled, running her little hands over the drawing. "I love your picture so much, Miss Yvette."

Milton looked at Nola's tiny frame and couldn't hold it back anymore.

A deep burning sensation flooded his eyes.

Milton nodded.

Yvette went home, took a shower, and ordered some takeout.

After eating, she lay down on the sofa to rest and accidentally clicked into her social media feed.

She saw a familiar profile picture and clicked on it.

It was Trent.

He had posted a photo dump, with the center image immediately catching her eye.

The photo captured a man's sharp jawline from the side as he thoughtfully draped a suit jacket over the woman next to him.

The woman was looking up at the man, her eyes sparkling, a bright smile on her red lips.

The background was clearly somewhere abroad.

It looked like they were on a vacation.

She remembered when she and Jabez had first gotten married. She had asked to go on a honeymoon.

He had just coldly replied, "I don't have time."
