A massive patch of his shirt was soaked through. Beads of sweat as large as pearls broke out across his forehead, and all the color drained from his lips.

Yvette's mouth moved slightly. "Take your shirt off right now, or the fabric might fuse with your skin."

"Ms. Yeats, you and Willow were standing very close to each other. Jabez just moved in to make sure she wouldn't get caught in the crossfire. Don't go getting the wrong idea," Trent warned her coldly.

If he didn't spell it out for her, she would probably be delusional enough to think Jabez had actually tried to save her.

If she got emotional and decided to backtrack on the divorce because of this, Jabez would be the one paying the price.

Willow, who had been secretly furious that Jabez had protected Yvette, suddenly had a revelation upon hearing Trent's words.

So he had done it for her.

She had almost misunderstood and thought he actually cared about Yvette.

"Jabez, take your shirt off now. Milton, go get the car. Trent, help me get him outside," Willow ordered, forcing down her panic and taking charge.

Yvette stood rooted to the spot, watching them scramble away. She didn't move a muscle to help.

Instead, she turned and walked right back into the private dining room.

The door was yanked open to reveal an anxious Charlotte. "What took you so long? Did something happen?"

Yvette didn't answer right away. Seeing her dark mood, Charlotte quickly pulled her inside and sat her down.

"I ran into Jabez."

"Did that bastard bully you?" Charlotte shot to her feet, marching fiercely toward the door.

"No." Yvette pulled her back. After a moment of thought, she gave a brief rundown of what had just happened.

"Serves him right! Karma is real!" Charlotte let out a loud, vindictive laugh.

Matthew quietly watched Yvette, who had her eyes lowered. "Do you feel bad for him?"

"No. Let's just head back for today. I'm not in the mood anymore."
