Milton let out a long sigh. "With Ms. Huxley there to keep him company, he'll be perfectly fine."

Wynne Farrell stormed into Kingsbrook General Hospital, her face flushed with anger.
Seeing her walk in, a flash of surprise crossed Jabez's eyes from where he sat on the bed. "Mom? What are you doing here?"
"If I hadn't called Corbin, were you planning on hiding this from me entirely?"
Jabez shot a dark glare at Corbin, who had just arrived to deliver some documents. The look alone made him break out in a cold sweat.
Corbin looked utterly helpless.
He was just an employee. When the boss's mother demanded answers, he didn't exactly have the authority to lie to her face.
"How on earth did you manage to get yourself burned like this out of nowhere?"
Wynne sat down on the edge of the bed, her eyes tracing the angry red skin exposed on his back. Her heartache was impossible to hide.
"It was an accident."
She could tell immediately that he had no intention of elaborating.
"Why don't you come back to the estate for a few days? I can look after you properly. I hate the idea of you being stuck out here all by yourself."
"There's no need. Someone is already taking care of me."
"Who?" Wynne caught on instantly, her eyes locking onto him.
Before Jabez could answer, the door pushed open.
Willow had dressed very modestly today in a simple white dress, her makeup much lighter and more subdued than usual.
"Jabez, I brought you some food from The Vervain..."
She stopped mid-sentence as she finally noticed Wynne sitting there. A look of momentary surprise crossed her face before she quickly stepped forward.
"Mrs. Shelby, hello."
"Mhm." Wynne put on her most aristocratic air, her eyes dropping to the insulated containers in Willow's hands. "What did you buy?"
"I picked up some of his favorite dishes from The Vervain. They're all highly nutritious and should help speed up his recovery."
As she spoke, she carefully arranged the food on the table.
Wynne glanced at the spread. They really were all his favorites.
She looked Willow up and down, taking in her appearance and elegant demeanor. But more importantly, she appreciated the obvious devotion the girl was showing her son.
"Have you eaten yet, Mrs. Shelby? Why don't you join us?" Willow respectfully handed her a pair of silverware with both hands. "I didn't know you were coming, but if you let me know next time, I'll make sure to order exactly what you like."
