*Ding.*
Stepping out of the elevator, the very first thing Jabez saw was the woman resting against another man's chest.
His dark eyes turned pitch-black, an unreadable storm of emotions swirling in his gaze.
A few seconds later, he walked over.
Hearing those familiar footsteps, Yvette's body instantly tensed.
Was he here to get revenge for the Huxley family?
Sensing her sudden anxiety, Matthew patted her back reassuringly and leaned in. "Don't be afraid. I'm here."
Yvette nodded.
Jabez stared deeply at the two of them acting as if they were the only people in the world. The low, oppressive aura radiating from him made the already suffocating hallway feel intensely volatile.
Lance was in no mood to exchange pleasantries with Jabez, choosing to treat him like thin air.
Charlotte already despised the man, so there was no way she was going to initiate a conversation.
"What happened to the Yeats family?"
When Jabez asked, he was met with dead silence. Yet, he didn't seem embarrassed. He stood his ground calmly, looking as if he had no intention of leaving until he got an answer.
Matthew took a step forward. "Is Mr. Shelby taking a sudden interest in Yeats family affairs?"
"Is Mr. Sutton a member of the Yeats family?" Jabez shot back, arching a brow.
"Jabez, what are you doing here? You're not welcome," Yvette said, turning around, her gaze freezing cold.
"Grandmother asked me to come," he replied.
"Thank her for her kindness on my behalf, and tell her that everything is fine with the Yeats family."
Yvette wanted absolutely nothing to do with him.
She just wanted to cut through the mess as quickly as possible. Once her mother was safe and the Solstice Auctions event was over, she would leave Kingsbrook for good.
Jabez's brow twitched slightly, but he didn't say a word.
Just then, the surgical light flicked off.
Dr. Walder emerged and immediately offered Jabez a polite nod.
