Before returning to the country, Willow had already submitted her resume to the Azure Atelier. She and Matthew had had a wonderful chat at the time, and she could tell from his tone that he truly valued raw talent.
Matthew's smile didn't reach his eyes. "I remember."
He turned his head and shot a disappointed, resentful glare toward the corner, where Yvette was sitting completely unfazed.
Yvette flashed him a guilty, pleading smile.
Her husband was blatantly introducing his mistress to major industry connections right in front of her, and she was still smiling! Matthew couldn't help but let out a cold scoff, stubbornly turning his head away so he wouldn't have to look at her.
Noticing his reaction, Willow followed his gaze and spotted Yvette. Recalling the cold scoff Matthew had just let out, it was obvious he looked down on Yvette.
A flicker of mockery flashed through her eyes.
"Ms. Huxley, you wish to join the Azure Atelier?"
"Yes," Willow replied with absolute confidence. "I want to study directly under the master restorer Raine. I also firmly believe my skills can elevate the Azure Atelier to even greater heights!"
Matthew's lips twitched. The way she spoke, you'd think she was already running the place.
"Our online discussions were purely theoretical. The Azure Atelier prioritizes practical restoration skills above all else. If you have the time, you're welcome to come in for an assessment."
"I look forward to a more in-depth conversation with you, Mr. Sutton." She remained composed and poised.
During her studies abroad, her professors had constantly praised her as a genius! With her skill level, getting into the Azure Atelier was practically a done deal! The only reason he mentioned a test was likely to avoid accusations of nepotism from the staff.
Besides, she didn't want to be labeled as a backdoor hire either. She had the talent to back it up!
The three of them eventually parted ways.
Matthew walked over and sat down next to Yvette, crossing his legs and giving her a half-amused, half-exasperated look. "Have you finally knocked some sense into that head of yours? If your brain is still pure mush, I can't help you."
"Do you think she's trying to get on your good side? You are Professor Crispin's son, after all. If she gets close to you, she'll have way more opportunities to impress him."
Yvette analyzed the situation seriously.
"She said she wants to study under the master restorer Raine." Matthew leaned in closer. "That book you published is legendary in the industry. Plenty of people understand the theory, but they can't physically execute the techniques. Half the people who try to join us just want to learn your methods."
Seeing the shock spread across her face, he nodded firmly.
"Did she pass the assessment?"
"No, she hasn't taken it yet. I really want to see just how capable she actually is." Matthew chuckled mischievously.
Yvette understood exactly what he was implying, and her lips curled into a smile.
"I have to get back to networking. Catch you later." Matthew stood up, slipping his professional smile back into place.
