Yvette waved him off.
After they parted, she spent some time wandering through the museum alone.
She took photos of the various antique paintings and calligraphy pieces, eventually stopping in front of 'The Astley Oxen.'
This was a piece she had restored alongside Professor Crispin and several senior museum restorers. It had taken five grueling months to complete. Seeing it now brought a complicated wave of emotions crashing over her.
Logically, she shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near such a priceless artifact. Professor Crispin had put his own reputation on the line, aggressively recommending her to the museum board so she could participate.
She hadn't let him down and executed her portion flawlessly. The museum had even offered to make an unprecedented exception and hire her before she had even finished her undergraduate degree, but she had turned them down.
All for Jabez.
Right now, she genuinely wanted to travel back in time and knock her past self out.
It was true. Once you reach a certain point in life, you can't even empathize with the person you used to be.
Yvette headed to the restroom. When she walked out, she ran straight into Jabez's close friend, Milton. She had no intention of acknowledging him.
As she tried to walk past, Milton suddenly spoke up. "How did you manage to get a ticket?"
Hearing this, Yvette frowned and looked at him, not missing the flash of irritation in his brown eyes.
Did he actually think she had stalked Jabez all the way here?
She blamed herself. She had loved Jabez so desperately and pathetically in the past that now everyone assumed her entire existence revolved around him.
"What exactly are you trying to say, Mr. Graham?"
"Jabez doesn't love you. You must know that by now, right?" He put on a patronizing, 'for your own good' expression. "If you're smart, you'll willingly give up your position as Mrs. Shelby. He'll make sure you're well compensated."
"I've already signed the divorce papers and given them to him. Please tell him to sign them so we can expedite the proceedings."
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away. Her retreating figure was so resolute that Milton actually believed her for a second.
But was she really willing to walk away?
"See? I told you she'd never actually leave him." Trent wore an obnoxious 'I knew it' smirk. "She talks a big game, but if Jabez seriously tried to divorce her, she'd drop to her knees and bawl her eyes out begging him to stay."
Milton frowned. Yvette hadn't looked like she was bluffing earlier. But Jabez just confirmed there were no papers. Maybe he had overestimated her after all.
Willow pressed her red lips into a tight line, her disappointment painfully obvious.

The event concluded.
After returning home and washing up, Yvette received a phone call from Sybil.
"Yvette, the weather in Kingsbrook is getting too hot. Let's head up to the Highland Retreat for a couple of days."
"But I have to work the day after tomorrow."
"I already spoke to Jabez and got you the time off. I'm having the driver pick you up tomorrow morning. It's settled."
