Early the next morning.
"Yvette!" Nola's sweet voice chimed from the doorway.
"Nola." Yvette slipped out of bed. "What are you doing here?"
"She heard you got hurt and threw a tantrum until I brought her to see you," Milton explained with a warm smile.
"Don't worry, Yvette. I'll blow on it, and the pain will go all away!"
Two soft, chubby little hands gently grasped Yvette's. Looking down, Yvette saw the little girl puffing out her cheeks, blowing gently on her hand.
Her heart completely melted.
"Thank you, sweetie. I don't feel any pain at all now." Yvette guided Nola to sit down. "I can't take you to the mall today, but as soon as I'm all better, how about we go to the amusement park?"
"Okay!" Nola nodded her little head vigorously.
The autumn air was crisp and cool.
Yvette took Nola downstairs to play and collect fallen leaves.
"Look at this ginkgo leaf, Nola. Doesn't it look like a little heart?"
"Wow, it's so pretty!"
Nola's eyes sparkled. Yvette handed the golden leaf to her. "This is for you."
"Thank you, Yvette!"
Even something as simple as picking up leaves had the two of them laughing with sheer joy.
Nola gathered a handful of beautiful ginkgo leaves and gifted them to Yvette, who accepted them with a bright smile.
While the little girl was distracted playing, Yvette walked over to Milton. "How much was the hospital bill? I'll wire you the money."
Milton initially wanted to wave it off, but he knew Yvette's stubborn personality well enough to know she wouldn't accept charity.
"I'll text you the invoice later."
"Perfect." Yvette's gaze drifted back to the happily playing child. "And... thank you for making Creed apologize to me."
A flash of surprise crossed his face. "How did you know?"
"I asked Matthew, and he said he didn't do it. You were the only other person who knew what happened."
"I owe you a favor now. If you ever need anything, just call me."
Milton nodded. Suddenly, his phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen. "Let me grab this."
"Go ahead."
Seeing her nod, he stepped into the shade of a large tree and answered the call.
