"How do you even propose?" Jabez looked at Trent. Out of all of them, Trent went through girlfriends the fastest and had the most experience.
"A proposal has to be romantic. The atmosphere has to be perfect. But the absolute most important thing is catering to what she loves. Whatever means the most to Willow, you need to make it happen for her."
Trent waved a hand dismissively. "But honestly, she's so crazy about you, she'd probably say yes even if you just asked her in a parking lot."
"When are you planning to do it?" Milton asked thoughtfully.
"In three days."
"That fast?" Surprise flickered in Milton's eyes.
Jabez didn't bother elaborating.
Milton nodded, deciding not to press the issue.
"I promised Nola I'd be home early today. I'm taking off."
He stood up, grabbed his keys, and headed for the door.
When Milton got home, Nola heard the front door open and came running over happily.
"Daddy, you're back! I missed you."
Milton crouched down, scooping her up into a hug. His heart melted instantly.
"Why are you still awake so late, sweetheart?"
"I'm not sleepy," Nola replied in her sweet, babyish voice. "Daddy, I miss Miss Yvette. Can you take me to see her tomorrow?"
Sitting on the couch, Bettina shot her son a suspicious look.
"What lady?" A thought clicked in her head, and she walked over with a bright smile. "Milton, do you have a girlfriend? As long as she's a good person, bring her over so your father and I can meet her."
Milton paused, setting Nola back down. "Mom, it's no one. Just a colleague. Nola met her once and really liked her."
"Milton, you're not getting any younger. When are you finally going to bring a woman home for me to meet?"
Bettina looked distressed, immediately launching into her usual nagging. "Look at Jabez. Divorced Yvette and is already completely smitten with his mistress..."
"Grandma, what's a mistress?" Nola asked, her face pure innocence.
