"I'm just worried about you going off on your own," Winifred said, holding Yvette's hand, her eyes swimming with concern.
"She's been through so much lately. A change of scenery and a fresh perspective will do her a world of good. Don't try to stop her," Grandma Helen reasoned, fully supportive of the idea.
"Just keep your guard up while you're out there alone. Never try to hurt anyone, but never trust anyone too easily either," Joanne advised gently.
"I know. I will." Yvette grabbed her purse and headed for the door.
Lance walked her to the car, his brows knitted in a deep frown. "You're pregnant, Yvette. It's too dangerous to be out there by yourself."
"I have to do this for the baby, Lance."
Her stomach was already starting to show. If she didn't leave now, the baby would be in even greater danger.
Besides, Chloe already knew she was pregnant. It was only a matter of time before she ran her mouth to Willow.
She had to disappear, and the sooner the better.
Hearing that, Lance immediately understood her reasoning. He let out a heavy sigh. "I respect your decision."
"Thank you. Please take good care of my mom while I'm gone."
Saying that, Yvette pulled out a bank card and offered it to him. "There's a million in here. Use it to buy her whatever health supplements she needs."
"Put that away," Lance ordered, his face hardening.
"The family business is doing fine now. Keep your own money. Once the baby arrives, you're going to have a million different expenses."
Seeing that he absolutely refused to take it, Yvette didn't push it. She figured she'd just buy the items herself and have them shipped over.
"Alright. I'm heading out."
Yvette waved goodbye to him.
Lance stood there looking completely heartbroken until her car completely disappeared from view.
Glancing in the rearview mirror, Yvette caught sight of him wiping away tears from the corners of his eyes.
The leaves on the trees lining the street were just beginning to yellow, making the very air feel heavy with sorrow.
Yvette's eyes stung fiercely, but she forced the tears back down.
Parting wasn't about sadness; it was simply a stepping stone toward a better reunion.
