Moving with lightning speed, Milton wrapped his arm around her waist, catching her before she could hit the deck.

The faint, clean scent of her perfume drifted into his senses. His Adam's apple bobbed, his voice coming out slightly hoarse. "Are you alright?"

Recovering from the shock, Yvette quickly stepped back out of his embrace. "Thank you, I'm fine."

She looked a little uncomfortable. After all, he was Jabez's close friend; being in such close physical contact with him felt inherently awkward.

Hiding behind a tree, Chloe watched Yvette seemingly throw herself into Milton's arms, practically combusting with rage.

Yvette really was a home-wrecking seductress! Wasn't Matthew Sutton enough for her? Exactly how many men did she need? She was practically starving for attention!

"Are you okay, Yvette?" Nola asked, tilting her little head up with genuine concern.

"I'm perfectly fine," Yvette reassured her with a shake of her head.

The boat was electric. Milton took the wheel to steer while Yvette kept an eye on Nola.

Being considerate of Yvette's nerves, Milton deliberately kept the speed slow and steady.

Once she felt completely safe, the tension bled out of Yvette's body. She closed her eyes, fully enjoying the gentle breeze against her face.

Nola looked excitedly from side to side, giggling happily every time Milton slightly accelerated.

Yvette spent the entire day playing with the little girl.

Soon, night fell.

The three of them headed to a restaurant known for having the best panoramic views in all of Kingsbrook.

Having burned through all her energy, Nola ate dinner early and was now slumped over the table, dozing off.

Milton scooped her up, his voice incredibly soft. "Go to sleep. Daddy's here."

Nola snuggled her head into his shoulder, murmuring sleepily, "Daddy."

"Yeah, I'm right here." Milton reached up to gently smooth down her messy hair.

Seeing the overwhelming tenderness in his expression, Yvette spaced out for a moment.

Nola had been dealt a tragic hand, but at the same time, she was incredibly lucky.

She had Milton's unconditional, wholehearted love to make up for the loss of her mother.
