A heavy silence stretched between them.
Half an hour later, Yvette and Charlotte arrived at Kingsbrook General Hospital.
Yvette stood at a moderate distance from Jabez. "What happened?"
"Grandma knows about our divorce," Jabez said, one hand in his pocket. A pile of cigarette butts lay at his feet.
She paused. "How did Sybil find out? I haven't dared to visit her lately."
"It was me," Simon chimed in weakly. "Grandma didn't agree with my brother and Willow's relationship. In a moment of panic, I blurted out that you two were divorced."
Yvette had suspected Willow intentionally leaked it; she hadn't even considered Simon.
Hearing this, she glared at him sharply. "Are you Willow's lapdog? You actually made your grandmother sick over her? Sybil wasted her love on you!"
Simon knew he was in the wrong and didn't dare talk back.
Regardless of Simon's faults, he was still Wynne's son. Hearing Yvette call him a dog, Wynne stepped forward.
"Get this straight, Yvette. Sybil is Simon's own grandmother. How could he intentionally make her sick?"
She continued with clear dissatisfaction, "It's entirely out of line for you to talk about Simon like that. If Sybil hadn't been muttering your name, we wouldn't have even let you come over."
Charlotte looked at Wynne like she was an idiot. "Mrs. Shelby, if it weren't for Sybil, we wouldn't have come even if you begged us. Do you really think hanging out at a hospital is a fun time?"
"You..." Wynne choked, momentarily at a loss for a comeback.
"Enough," Jabez said coldly.
Wynne glared fiercely at Charlotte and sat down indignantly.
"Yvette, let's sit and wait." Charlotte and Yvette took the chairs opposite Wynne.
Wynne, Jabez, and Simon sat across from them.
The two groups were clearly divided.
Just then, the sharp *click-clack* of high heels echoed on the floor.
