Yvette froze. Winifred had never spoken to her like this before.

The family's situation must be truly dire.

"Mom, the family is fine. Don't worry about it," Yvette comforted her.

Winifred looked at her earnestly. "Don't make the same mistakes I did."

Yvette lowered her eyes, her long lashes hiding her emotions. "I won't."

The two went downstairs for dinner.

Knowing Yvette was visiting, Aunt Joanne had specially prepared a healthy restorative soup.

"You've lost weight again. Eat up and get some strength back."

"Thanks."

After dinner, Joanne packed Yvette off with a mountain of supplements, along with some expensive health gifts for Jabez's grandmother, Sybil.

Yvette drove home.

Entering her studio, she looked at the fertility charm painting on the table. The backing was removed, and she began the restoration process.

-

During her shift, Yvette received a call from Winifred.

"Mom, is everything okay?"

"Your uncle's birthday is coming up. Don't forget to get him a gift."

"I know."

"And on the day of his birthday, make sure you and Jabez come over for a family dinner."

Yvette went silent for a few seconds. "I'll be there."

Since their wedding, Jabez had only visited the Yeats family once, for the traditional post-wedding visit.

Now that he was inseparable from Willow, she knew he wouldn't come.

However, Sybil and her grandmother had been close friends for years.

Even if her marriage was falling apart, out of respect for her grandmother's relationship with the Shelby family, she had to at least ask him.

She dialed Jabez's number.

"Jabez is asleep. Whatever you need to say, you can tell me," Willow's distinctly raspy voice answered.

Charlotte had thrown her hands up to protect her face and was mostly unhurt.

By the time Yvette pulled the brake and tried to shield herself, it was too late. Her forehead slammed viciously against the steering wheel.

Stars exploded in her vision, and it took her several long seconds to orient herself.

"Are you okay?" Charlotte asked, tugging on her arm.

Yvette shook her head. "I'm fine," she murmured.

They got out to check the damage.

The car behind them was a luxury BMW. A refined-looking middle-aged man stepped out of the driver's seat.

"Yvette?" he asked uncertainly.

Yvette turned and saw Quentin Huxley standing a few feet away.

Seeing the hypocritical pair, Yvette's brow furrowed in deep disgust.

Sensing the tension, Charlotte whispered, "Who are these people?"

"My biological father, and his mistress," Yvette replied, her eyes practically freezing over.
