Quentin met Charlotte's mocking, half-smiling gaze, and a surge of furious indignation flared in his chest.

He was the Chairman of the Huxley Group! How dare some arrogant little brat speak to him like this?

"My daughter obviously has much more important things to do!" Quentin snapped coldly, then turned his attention back to Yvette. "Yvette, is this how you treat your—"

The word 'father' died on his lips the moment he spotted Matthew Sutton standing a short distance away.

Willow had explicitly warned him that Matthew and Yvette's relationship seemed ambiguously close. If Matthew found out he was Yvette's father...

All Yvette had to do was whisper a few choice words in Matthew's ear, and Willow's chances of building a connection with him would be completely destroyed.

Yvette let out a dark, mocking scoff. He spent all his time preaching about how much he missed her, how much he wanted to make things right.

Last time, he hadn't even bothered to notice she was injured. This time, he didn't even have the spine to admit who he was to her in public.

He was utterly terrified it might negatively impact Willow.

He mouthed pretty lies about missing her and compensating her, but in reality, he didn't even have the guts to let people know they were related.

Absolutely pathetic.

"Mr. Sutton, I am the Chairman of the Huxley Group," Quentin said, aggressively extending a hand toward Matthew.

Hearing "Huxley Group," Matthew immediately had a hunch about his identity. Catching the dark, thunderous look on Yvette's face from the corner of his eye only confirmed it.

But in business, basic pleasantries still had to be observed.

"Mr. Huxley."

The two shared a brief, entirely professional handshake.

"I have a piece of calligraphy that requires immediate restoration. How long would your team need?"

Quentin dropped the aggressive, overbearing attitude he had just aimed at the girls, slipping seamlessly back into his refined, gentlemanly persona.

"My apologies, Mr. Huxley. The Azure Atelier is currently swamped with internal projects. We are temporarily closed to all external commissions."

Matthew shoved his hands into his pockets, a polite smile plastered on his face that didn't reach his eyes.

She tried calling Jabez again, but just like before, he didn't answer.

She quickly typed out a text letting him know about the mandatory family dinner.

Whether he showed up or not was entirely on him; she had done her part by informing him.

As she arrived home, Yvette's phone rang. It was her Uncle Lance.

"Yvette, there's something I need to ask you for help with."

"Tell me, Uncle Lance."

"It's about the bidding for Joyful Plaza. Three corporations made it through the preliminary screening, and the Huxley Group is one of them. There's still one final review left. Whoever passes it gets the plaza. With Jabez publicly parading Willow around, I'm terrified he's going to rig it from the shadows. Could you talk to him? Make sure he stays out of it and keeps the competition fair?"

Yvette felt a suffocating lump form in her throat. She offered a soft "Mhm" in agreement.

If Jabez refused to let the competition remain fair, she would do absolutely everything in her power to stop him.

Whatever it took.
