Her heart warmed.
She removed a couple of dishes and added a few more suited to Matthew's tastes.
"All set."
"Was Willow stationed far from you guys?" Charlotte's eyes lit up with gossip.
"She was still struggling with her piece when we submitted ours." Matthew's lips curved into a smirk. "If you ask me, Jabez Shelby has to be blind to choose her."
"Exactly! She can't even compare to a single toe of our Yvette's." Charlotte nodded in firm agreement.
Yvette remained silent.
Even if Willow was inferior to her in restoration skills.
So what? Jabez was still willing to pamper her.
"Let's not talk about such depressing people. Let's eat."
The three of them chatted and laughed, the atmosphere lively and warm.
"I'm going to the restroom. You guys go ahead and eat," Charlotte said, getting up and heading toward the back.
Matthew's elegant, well-defined fingers were currently shelling a shrimp. Even such a simple action looked remarkably pleasing to the eye when he did it.
He placed the perfectly shelled shrimp onto Yvette's plate.
"Thank you," Yvette smiled softly.
"No need to be polite with me," Matthew said, continuing to shell another.
When Jabez and his group walked in, this was the exact scene they witnessed.
The usual coldness around Yvette had melted away, her eyes crinkling with a genuine smile.
Matthew's handsome features carried a gentle smile as well. The stunning pair looked exactly like a young couple deeply in love.
Trent gritted his teeth. "Is Yvette out of her mind? They aren't even divorced yet, and she's openly flirting with Mr. Sutton! She has absolutely no respect for you."
Milton didn't say a word, though a flicker of disdain crossed his eyes.
A faint, almost imperceptible smirk graced Willow's red lips.
Matthew nodded. Glancing at the group she would inevitably have to walk past, he asked, "Want me to go with you?"
"No need."
Yvette made her way to the restroom, passed the supplies to Charlotte, and waited outside the door.
"So annoying. It would be great if women didn't have to deal with this, especially in the summer," Charlotte grumbled as she came out.
As they walked back together, Charlotte stopped dead in her tracks upon spotting Jabez's group in the dining room.
"Talk about terrible luck. We really shouldn't have gone out today."
As they stepped closer, Yvette could hear their conversation.
Trent held up a glass of champagne, offering it to Willow. "Try this, it's quite sweet."
Before Willow could even respond, Jabez reached out and pushed the glass away. His voice carried a protective edge. "She can't have that."
Charlotte frowned, completely puzzled. "Why can't Willow have champagne?"
"Because she's pregnant," Yvette stated flatly.
