"I'll get the car!" Charlotte reacted instantly.
When Yvette regained consciousness, she was already lying in a hospital bed. The sharp scent of antiseptic filled her nose, and an IV drip was attached to her hand.
Charlotte was keeping watch beside her.
The door to the room swung open. It was the same Dr. Albright from before, her brows furrowed deeply.
"Ms. Yeats, you are practically treating your health like a game!" Dr. Albright scolded. "If you really don't want this baby, you have options, but you cannot abuse your body like this!"
Hearing this, Charlotte froze in place.
A second later, her voice spiked. "Baby?"
Yvette rubbed her forehead, wanting to stop her, but it was already too late.
"I told you last time, if you lose this baby, you will likely never be able to conceive again! Think it over carefully and let me know your decision."
With that, the doctor left in a huff.
Charlotte stood up, her face dead serious. "Yvette, what exactly is going on? Don't tell me you're pregnant with Jabez's child?"
"Yes. I'm pregnant with his baby." Yvette stayed silent for two seconds. "You heard what the doctor said. I hadn't figured out whether to keep it or not, so I kept it from you."
Now it was Charlotte's turn to be silent.
A deathly quiet settled over the hospital room.
Matthew pushed the door open, holding the medical bills. "What do you guys want for lunch? Should I order takeout?"
Charlotte stood to the side with her arms crossed, deep in thought.
Yvette lay in bed, staring out the window.
Neither woman spoke.
"What's wrong?" Sensing the tension, Matthew frowned.
"Yeah. I've decided to keep her," Yvette said, looking up at Charlotte.
Charlotte hugged her tightly. "Matthew and I will always be right here with you. We are your strongest backup! Don't be afraid!"
A rush of heat stung Yvette's eyes, and tears blurred her vision. "Yeah... thank you, Charlotte. And thank you, Matthew."
"Don't be silly. We're family." Matthew walked over and gently ruffled Yvette's hair.
"Matthew, could you please find someone to draft a relinquishment of parental rights for me?" Yvette looked at him, a fierce determination flashing in her eyes.
Jabez held immense power and influence in Kingsbrook. She had to be perfectly prepared; she couldn't allow the child she was risking her life to have to face even the slightest jeopardy.
"I'm on it," Matthew nodded, turning to leave the room.
A little over ten minutes later, Matthew returned with the freshly printed agreement.
Yvette thoroughly reviewed it to ensure there were no loopholes before carefully tucking it into her purse.
