It was true that Yvette couldn't bear the thought of aborting her baby. But it was equally true that she couldn't bear to let her child suffer in a broken home.

And she felt genuinely guilty for deceiving the old woman who had always been so good to her.

Sybil chatted excitedly for a few moments, but noticing Yvette hadn't responded, she gently patted her shoulder. "Yvette? Sweetheart?"

Yvette snapped out of her daze, forcing a strained smile onto her face. "These babies are so cute, I just got completely lost staring at them."

"I knew you loved children!" Sybil slapped her thigh excitedly, beaming. "At the last baby shower we went to, I saw the way you looked at that newborn. Your eyes were just overflowing with pure love. You and Jabez have been married for years now. It's time to have one of your own. A family is only truly whole when there's a child."

"Once you and Jabez share a baby, you'll be tied together for life. His heart will naturally settle down and come back to you."

Yvette lowered her eyes, staring at the latte art swirling on the surface of her coffee.

It wasn't that she had never brought up having children; it was Jabez who refused.

She had always assumed he just disliked kids or wanted to prioritize his corporate empire. But then the memory of him at the hospital flashed into her mind—his panicked expression, his rushed footsteps, his gentle, coaxing whispers to Willow. It felt like a massive hand was crushing her heart, suffocating her.

He just didn't want a baby with *her*.

"Grandma, I'm just not ready for a baby right now." Yvette's voice was entirely void of emotion.

Sybil had lived a long life; she could easily tell that Yvette genuinely loved children.

At that baby shower, Yvette had practically begged to hold the newborn. Back then, she had practically radiated maternal warmth. For her to suddenly claim she didn't want a child now—Sybil didn't buy it for a second.

Could it be...

"Yvette, is there... is there something wrong with your health?" Sybil leaned in close, deliberately lowering her voice. "I know a top fertility expert. They specialize in these things. Why don't I take you to see them sometime?"

Jabez used protection every single time; there was no way she could have gotten pregnant normally. Even she had no idea how this accidental pregnancy had slipped through.

"Alright, I'll get it framed and hang it up."

Sybil smiled in absolute satisfaction.

The sound of the front door opening echoed through the hall. Both Sybil and Yvette looked toward the entryway.

Jabez stood in the doorway. His gaze landed squarely on Yvette, silently demanding an explanation.

Yvette knew exactly what he was expecting.

In the past, she would have rushed over immediately to help him out of his suit jacket, hang it up, and gently loosen his tie. She had always viewed those little domestic routines as deeply intimate moments between husband and wife.

But today, she suddenly had zero desire to do any of it.
