If Lena found out she was actually moving out, she would absolutely report it straight to Sybil. She didn't want any unnecessary drama, so lying was the easiest route.
Yvette closed her suitcase, zipped it up, and reached for the handle.
Seeing this, Lena hurriedly grabbed the other two suitcases to help.
To make sure she could take perfect care of her husband, Yvette rarely ever traveled for work, and whenever she did, it was always alongside him. Maybe, just maybe, Mr. and Mrs. Shelby were going on a business trip together this time.
The two of them brought the luggage downstairs. Yvette pulled her car up to the front door, and Lena helped load the suitcases into the trunk.
"Ma'am, please take good care of yourself on your trip," Lena urged gently.
"You take care of your health too, Lena." Yvette gave the kind old housekeeper a deeply meaningful look.
Her gaze sent a sudden spike of anxiety through Lena's chest.
Why did Mrs. Shelby's eyes look like she was saying goodbye forever?
She looked again, but Yvette was already getting into the car. Lena chuckled to herself, shaking her head. This was Mrs. Shelby's home—why would she have such a ridiculous thought?
Yvette drove straight to Skyview Gardens. This was the property the Yeats Family had bought for her before she got married.
It was the absolute best the Yeats Family could provide for her. It was wonderfully close to the Azure Atelier, and the neighborhood had supermarkets, hospitals, and a subway station right around the corner. It was incredibly convenient.
She took the elevator up and unlocked the door with her fingerprint.
She had hired a cleaning service in advance, so the apartment was spotless.
-
At noon.
"This is Diana. She'll be taking over your position." Corbin stood by Yvette's desk with the new hire.
Diana was gorgeous and had an incredible figure. Corbin simply didn't believe Yvette would quietly allow a woman this stunning to work so closely with Mr. Shelby.
Yvette stood up and proactively extended her hand to Diana. Her expression was perfectly friendly, as if they were just two ordinary colleagues meeting for the first time.
Corbin couldn't find a single trace of jealousy or dissatisfaction on Yvette's face, and it deeply unsettled him.
Sybil was the only person in the entire Shelby family who actually treated her well. If Sybil was happy, Yvette was naturally happy too.
Sybil picked up a scroll from the side table and handed it to her, smiling as she gestured for her to open it.
Yvette took the painting and carefully unrolled it. For Sybil to be this thrilled, it had to be an original masterpiece by a renowned artist, perhaps even something completely lost to history.
The scroll wasn't large, and it quickly revealed itself to Yvette.
It was a fertility charm—a beautiful painting of two cherubic babies. A benevolent figure watched lovingly over the infants in her arms.
For the longest time, Yvette had desperately wanted to have a child with Jabez. And now she was finally pregnant, but the baby was completely unwelcome and unloved by its father.
The thought of aborting the baby caused a dull ache in her chest.
But she couldn't stand the idea of bringing a child into the world who wasn't loved or blessed by its own father. A child who might have to hide and live in the shadows for its entire life.
Even though it would technically be the legitimate child of his lawful wife, it would have to walk on eggshells, treated worse than the mistress's kid.
