"What's the deal with Willow? You have to explain it to me clearly today," Wynne demanded firmly.

"I checked her resume. It's quite impressive. Dual doctorates from a top overseas university, and she recently placed in the top three of the restoration competition hosted by Solstice Auctions. She's securing a partnership with them."

"Her looks and abilities are fine, but her family background is subpar." Wynne's face flashed with disdain as she thought of Rhonda. "What I hate most in this world are mistresses. Her mother clawed her way up as one. Is Willow planning to do the same?"

"The Huxley family has secured quite a few partnerships recently using your name. Did you authorize all of this?"

Jabez's eyes darkened, but he offered no explanation. "Mom, I know what I'm doing."

"Let me meet Willow. If she has good character and you actually like her, it's not impossible for me to accept her."

Wynne's greatest heartache was her son's miserable marriage to Yvette.

Now, all she wanted was for her son to find someone he truly loved.

She was willing to lower her standards for a daughter-in-law.

"Mom, just drop it," Jabez said, looking visibly displeased.

"I'm your mother!" Wynne argued earnestly. "You've been married to Yvette for seven years, and you still refuse to let her have your child. I know you don't love her."

"The Shelby family needs a child, and it has to be a boy," Wynne pressed. "When are you planning to divorce her? If she agrees, you can give her a share of the assets. It's the least you can do after being married."

Corbin walked in holding a cup of coffee. The unclosed door allowed Wynne's voice to drift out into the hall.

Willow, who was on her way to see Jabez, heard every word. A thrill of delight flashed in her eyes.
