She turned and headed straight downstairs, hearing his unhurried footsteps trailing behind her.
As she descended the stairs, Yvette walked incredibly fast. Anyone watching would have thought she was being chased by a rabid dog.
Jabez cast a thoroughly unimpressed glance at her retreating back.
Yvette sat down on Sybil's left, completely ignoring Jabez's presence.
Jabez pulled out the chair directly across from Yvette, preparing to sit.
"Is there no room next to Yvette?" Sybil frowned in deep disapproval.
Jabez didn't say a word. He pushed the chair back in, walked around the table, and sat down right next to Yvette.
If this were the past, she would have been so thrilled she wouldn't even know what to do with her hands.
But having witnessed exactly how tender he could be with Willow, her heart felt absolutely nothing but dead calm.
Jabez scanned the dishes on the table, his tone deeply sarcastic as he spoke. "Grandma, feeding someone this much rich food is asking for trouble."
Yvette looked at the table in confusion, only then realizing that more than half the dishes were oysters and obvious aphrodisiacs meant to boost male vitality.
She pressed her lips together. She knew Sybil meant well. The old woman was desperately trying to help her use a pregnancy to lock down Jabez's heart.
Unfortunately, Sybil had no idea that Jabez had already knocked up Willow!
"Nonsense!" Sybil's face darkened. "It's not like you eat this every day. It won't kill you."
Jabez stayed silent, flatly refusing to take a single bite of those specific dishes.
Since he wouldn't eat them, there was nothing Sybil could do but glare at him.
Realizing Plan A had failed, Sybil immediately pivoted to Plan B. "Jabez, serve Yvette some food."
Yvette was just about to say she didn't need him to, when a perfectly de-boned piece of fish suddenly landed on her plate.
Seeing Jabez actually cooperate, a delighted smile spread across Sybil's face. The handsome man and the beautiful woman looked absolutely perfect together. Any child of theirs was guaranteed to inherit their stunning genetics.
Just thinking about it made her ecstatic! Sybil chuckled happily to herself.
For the rest of the meal, anytime Sybil glanced in Jabez's direction, he would automatically put a choice cut of food onto Yvette's plate.
When Yvette returned to the guest room, Jabez was nowhere to be seen. She recalled how he had actively avoided sitting in the same living room as her earlier.
He was probably hiding out in the study. The study had a bed—it was a bit small, but perfectly fine for sleeping. He definitely wasn't coming back to this room.
Yvette placed the boxes Sybil had given her on the vanity, picked up the top one, and walked into the en-suite bathroom.
It was just pajamas. She'd wear them to make the old woman happy.
After her shower, Yvette opened the box and stared at the fabric inside. Her face instantly burned beet red.
Calling it 'sleepwear' was generous. The amount of fabric was practically nonexistent. It barely covered the essentials.
And since she hadn't brought any other pajamas into the bathroom with her, she was trapped.
She looked around the bathroom, finally reaching out to pull a plush white bathrobe off the rack and wrapping it tightly around herself.
She was getting a divorce anyway. Why on earth would she dress up in something that sexy for him?
There was absolutely no point!
