Jabez saw right through her lie but didn't bother calling her out. "Fine by me," he replied casually.

Realizing her grandson had seen past her bluff, Sybil grew even more furious. She stood up and marched over to him.

Smack.

She slapped him solidly on his firm arm.

"You useless boy!"

Amusement danced in Jabez's eyes. "What did I do to you?"

"Do I need a reason to hit you?" Sybil glared at him before storming out of the office in a huff.

Two minutes later, Corbin walked in holding a document, only to find Jabez's tall, imposing figure standing by the floor-to-ceiling window.

"Bring me the divorce agreement my wife sent over," Jabez ordered.

Corbin retrieved it from the shelf and handed it over. Jabez stared at the envelope for a long moment before finally opening it.

The office fell into absolute silence, save for the soft rustle of flipping pages.

Five minutes later, Jabez let out a cold, cynical laugh and handed the file back to Corbin.

Corbin quickly skimmed through the pages, his eyes widening in sheer shock.

"She wants a billion dollars?! Twenty properties, two luxury cars, and ten percent of the Shelby Group's shares! And if she doesn't get it, she won't agree to the divorce? This is completely outrageous!"

Even a single percent of the Shelby Group's shares was enough for an ordinary person to live in luxury for the rest of their life, let alone ten percent!

"Mr. Shelby, she's definitely doing this on purpose. She knows you'd never agree to these terms, so she can go around telling people you're the one refusing to let her go."

Corbin's voice was laced with indignation and anger.

"Just leave it there for now," Jabez instructed flatly.

He then shifted his focus to organizing the details for Sybil's upcoming birthday gala.

Five days later.

The birthday gala was held at The Vervain.

She had been married to Jabez for seven years, and not once had she ever attended a public event with him as Mrs. Shelby.

Now, Wynne was even more desperate to keep Yvette's identity hidden from the public eye.

It worked out perfectly; Yvette didn't feel like making excuses either.

"Thanks for understanding," Yvette said, turning back to Helen. "Let's go, Grandma. I'll help you to the lounge to rest."

Helen cast a cool, brief glance at Wynne. That single look made Wynne feel a sudden spike of panic, but then she remembered her status as the current lady of the Shelby family and straightened her spine defiantly.

Yvette led her group inside.

The entire exchange was observed by Willow Huxley, who felt a surge of disdain toward Yvette.

Seven years of marriage and she still couldn't secure Jabez's affection. Her mother-in-law despised her, and only the elderly Sybil was blind enough to favor her.

She was just an old woman with one foot in the grave. She didn't have many years left anyway.

Rhonda Yarrow's red lips curled into a smirk. "If you ask me, Yvette's position in the Shelby family is hanging by a thread. As long as you keep a firm grip on Jabez's heart, joining the Shelby family is only a matter of time."
