He froze, utterly stunned, and a wave of deep shame washed over him.

Thinking back to the cold, harsh things he had said to Yvette before, he felt as if someone had just slapped him hard across the face. It burned.

Yvette had saved Nola's life. If it weren't for her, Nola would have absolutely been mauled.

"Thank you," he said with utter sincerity, setting Nola down and offering Yvette his hand.

Yvette glanced at him, her eyes cool and detached. She didn't try to play tough, though, and accepted his hand to pull herself up.

"Don't mention it." With that, Yvette turned to leave.

Nola reached out and blocked her path, looking incredibly worried. "You're hurt! You got hurt trying to save me. I'll have my dad take you to the hospital."

Snapping back to reality, Milton quickly agreed. "You're bleeding. Let me drive you to the hospital."

Nola stood there with a deeply serious expression, her little brows furrowed like an adult's.

Yvette managed a soft smile, unable to bring herself to reject the little girl's kindness.

In the car.

"I'm Nola. Thank you for saving me today."

"You're very welcome."

"Does it hurt? I can blow on it to make it better."

Nola leaned close to Yvette's arm, puckering her lips and blowing gently over the scrape.

"Thank you, Nola. It doesn't hurt anymore," Yvette said warmly.

The injury wasn't too severe; she had just scraped her left elbow when she dove to the ground while holding Nola.

Thankfully, she didn't feel any discomfort in her stomach.

The three of them arrived at the hospital, where a doctor cleaned and bandaged Yvette's arm.

"Dad, let's treat her to dinner!"

"That's okay, I have some things to take care of, so I should get going," Yvette waved goodbye to Nola, completely ignoring Milton, and walked away.

Shelby Group, CEO's Office.

"Ma'am, Mr. Shelby has another half hour before his meeting ends. Please just wait a little longer," Corbin said, pouring a cup of tea and offering it to Sybil.

A fierce surge of anger bubbled up in her chest.

She pulled out her phone, made a quick call, and gave a hushed command.

Ten minutes later, someone pushed open the office door, only to leave barely a minute later.

When Jabez returned, he found Sybil sitting in his chair, radiating fury.

"What's wrong? Who upset you?" Jabez walked over, asking with a light, easy smile.

Sybil let out a sharp scoff and glared at him. "My seventy-fifth birthday gala is in five days. What are your plans?"

"Whatever you want."

"I want it to be massive! An absolute spectacle!" Sybil rapped her knuckles hard against the desk. "And I'm officially announcing Yvette's identity to the public!"

Jabez frowned slightly. "Have you discussed this with her?"

Sybil discreetly rubbed her sore hand under the desk. Hearing his question, she felt a brief twinge of guilt, but quickly masked it with absolute certainty.

"Of course I have!"
