"Don't I look handsome today?" He adjusted his silver-rimmed glasses and gave Yvette a playful waggle of his eyebrows.
Yvette leaned in, studying his handsome face seriously for a few seconds before nodding. "Very handsome. My heart only beats for you."
With a grin, she flashed him a finger heart.
Jabez happened to be walking past. His eyes darkened as he cast a long, lingering look at Yvette before walking away.
Completely engrossed in their banter, neither Matthew nor Yvette noticed Jabez.
"Ugh," Matthew shivered dramatically, rubbing his arms. "You're so cheesy."
"What's with the outfit today? It's really not your style," Yvette asked.
"My mom forced me to wear it. She said it's the only way to attract a nice girl from a good family. She's desperate for me to start dating," Matthew sighed, crossing his long legs.
A moment later, Charlotte Clark dropped onto the sofa next to them and shot Matthew a flirtatious wink. "Matthew, you look incredible. So devastatingly handsome, I think I'm in love with you."
Matthew pointed a finger toward the exit. "Get out. You're even grosser than Yvette."
The three of them burst into laughter.
From across the room, Willow noticed the trio looking entirely too happy. A calculated gleam flashed in her eyes.
"I'm going to go say hello to Mr. Sutton. Do you want to come?"
Trent agreed instantly. "Sure."
Milton hesitated for two seconds before nodding.
Charlotte noticed the three of them approaching and muttered a warning, "The homewrecker is incoming."
Matthew stood up, holding his wine glass. A polite smile stretched across his lips, though it didn't reach his eyes. "Mr. Sterling, Mr. Graham."
Trent's gaze was immediately drawn to Yvette.
She wore a stunning black halter-neck gown that showed off a sweep of flawless, radiant skin. Her long, silky dark hair cascaded over her shoulders, and delicate pearl earrings adorned her ears.
Eventually, he would switch sides and join her camp.
Once Yvette lost Matthew's protection, she would be left with absolutely nothing.
"I wouldn't dare presume," Matthew replied coolly.
"Why didn't I see Ms. Yeats's name in the top three? Was there some kind of misunderstanding?" Willow suddenly shifted the target to the silent Yvette.
She wanted nothing more than to publicly humiliate her.
Charlotte let out a harsh scoff. "You know perfectly well that Yvette's name wasn't on the final list, yet you bring it up anyway. You're just trying to embarrass her."
Meeting Charlotte's glaring eyes, Willow instantly adopted a look of pure victimization. "You're misunderstanding me, Charlotte. I was merely showing concern for Yvette."
"Charlotte, I know you and Yvette are best friends, but there's no need to be so incredibly aggressive," Trent stepped up, puffing out his chest. "If Ms. Yeats would just admit her skills aren't up to par, no one would laugh at her."
"Idiot," Yvette shot Trent an icy glare and dropped the word flatly.
