Chapter 194 Kneeling Outside
“You’ve been kneeling all this time?”
Teresa came to a stop in front of Wilson, her voice cool and measured.

She was wearing a tailored black dress with subtle gold thread embroidery, hemmed just above the ankles. The understated elegance of the outfit accentuated her presence–polished, controlled, and quietly imposing.
Wilson didn’t so much as glance up at her.
Teresa handed the silver tray she was carrying to one of Wilson’s men nearby, who accepted it without a word.
“He isn’t going to see you, Wilson,” she said, her tone almost conversational: “It’s late. You should gather your men and leave with
t’state Xavier’s people.”
There was no mistaking the edge beneath her pleasant delivery.
The day after Xavier had left, his men had taken positions outside Moore Manor. The demand was clear: hand over Wilson and every one of his men who’d been present that night.
Xavier had given them three days–not out of generosity, but because he understood that the real punishment for Wilson wasn’t a quick death at his hands. It was being disowned by Stanley, the man he’d devoted his life to.
So far, Stanley hadn’t made a decision.
Earlier, when Teresa had brought Stanley his food, she’d carefully brought up Wilson’s situation. Stanley had sidestepped the topic entirely.
It made sense. Letting go
of a loyal right–hand man, someone cultivated over decades, wasn’t an easy move to make.
But Xavier had formally acknowledged the child–Isabella’s child. Until Stanley understood what that truly meant, he wouldn’t risk openly opposing Xavier.
For the Moore family now, bloodline washing
Teresa was certain Stanley would choose wisely.
“I need to speak with him,” Wilson said, his voice low and rough.
Teresa allowed herself a soft, derisive laugh.
“He knows you want to see him. The fact he hasn’t called you in should tell you everything.
“You were always his favorite… well, I suppose ‘favorite watchdog‘ is more accurate.
“A good watchdog knows when to take a fall without getting its master’s hands dirty. Isn’t that right?”
Her smile didn’t reach her eyes as she spoke.
Wilson finally lifted his head to look at her, a faint, knowing curl at the corner of his mouth. “You really think things will improve for you once I’m gone, Teresa?”

why wouldn’t they?” She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a murmur near his ear. “Ever since you walked into this house, I’ve felt like I couldn’t breathe.”
Wilson’s expression remained unmoved. “Must have been difficult for you.”
Teresa straightened up, smoothing a loose strand of hair back into the tow knot at her nape.
But as she made to step past him, his voice, barely above a whisper, halted her mid–stride.
Her pulse gave a hard, sudden thump.
“John works for you, doesn’t he? He’s quite capable.”
Teresa spun back to face him the moment the words left his mouth.
She pressed her lips together, biting back her first response.
John had always kept to himself within the security team. She’d been careful never to interact with him directly outside of formal settings.
There was no way Wilson should have known–if he had, J
John would never have made it out to contact Xavier in time.
But she hadn’t seen John among the security detail since that night.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she replied evenly.
Wilson didn’t push it. He simply chuckled, the sound dry and humorless.
“You’re right. In the end,
a dog is just
a
dog. Once it’s served its purpose, why bother with what happens to it?”
Teresa didn’t answer. She turned and walked away, her steps quicker now.
Back in her room, she tried calling John’s number. No answer.
A restlessness settled over her. She went downstairs and quietly asked one of the housemaids to check with the head of security.
The report came back: John hadn’t been seen for over twenty–four hours.

The next morning, just before sunrise, Teresa was outside Stanley’s door early.
Wilson was still there on his knees, his posture visibly straining now. His back, once straight, sagged slightly; his face was pale, damp with a cold sweat. Two of his men knelt beside him, one supporting his arm.
When Teresa appeared, Wilson’s men rose slightly and bowed their heads in deference.
“Ms. Moore,” one of them ventured, voice thick with fatigue and desperation, “could you please… ask Mr. Moore to see him? Just for
a moment.”
Teresa paused, her hand on the doorknob. She glanced back at them, her gaze cool.
“You can’t even save yourselves, and you’re still worried about him? Do you not understand the position you’re in is because of your leader?”
