Stanley made no move to stop anyone. His voice was low, and the look he gave Wilson was almost fatherlygentle and kind.

Yet somehow, that only made the whole situation feel more unnerving.

Mr. Moore,Wilson began, his tone measured, I don’t want to put you in a difficult position. If I’m taken away by Xavier’s people, it won’t reflect well on you.

The moment he finished, Teresa let out a short, humorless laugh.

Really, Wilson? I thought you had more spine than this. All that brave talk about being willing to lay down your life for Father, and now you’re getting cold feet?

Stanley spoke slowly, deliberately, Wilson, you’ve been with me for decades. I’m not heartless.

He paused, his aged hand coming to rest lightly on Wilson’s shoulder.

It doesn’t have to come to that. You’re free to walk out of here with your

menright now.

Teresa’s anxiety spiked. Father, Wilson hurt your greatgrandsona child carrying the Moore name! And let’s be practical: if we don’t give Xavier some kind of resolution, he won’t just let this slide

Whether out of family loyalty or sheer political necessity, Stanley couldn’t afford to openly protect Wilson.

Ms. Moore, there’s no need for that!

Wilson cut her off sharply.

He shot her a cold, dismissive glance before turning back to Stanley and dipping his head in a respectful bow.

You’ve been like a father to me, Mr. Moore. I would gladly give my life to spare you any hardship. But your reputationthe family’s dignitycan’t be tarnished because of Xavier.

With that, Wilson pushed himself painfully to his feet.

He swayed, unsteady. Stanley lifted a hand as if to support him, but Wilson took a deliberate step back.

His own men quickly moved in, holding him upright.

Wilson and his small group bowed deeply to Stanley one last time, then turned and made their way out.

You’re just letting them leave like that?

Teresa’s question hung in the air as she noticed the faint, almost imperceptible smile touching Stanley’s lips.

Suddenly, she understood what Wilson had really meant.

Wilson knew Stanley better than she ever had. This wasn’t indecisionStanley had wanted Wilson to handle the matter himself, without forcing his hand openly.

See to the arrangements. Get more things for the childtoys, keepsakes. The rarer, the better.

Instead of answering Teresa directly, Stanley issued the quiet order and turned back toward his study.

Teresa stood frozen for a moment before hurrying downstairs.

Xavier’s security team was still gathered near the main entrance. Wilson and his men hadn’t yet emerged.

Then, from above, came a heavy, sickening crash.

Everyone froze. Teresa was the first to react, rushing into the private elevator and up to the villa’s highest floor, which opened onto the rooftop terrace.

Wilson’s former subordinates were all kneeling near the edge, their faces pale and rigid.

A cold dread settled in Teresa’s chest. She approached slowly. The mood among the men was heavy, silent.

The terrace railing was high. Peering through the gaps, Teresa could just make out a dark, spreading stain on the concrete far below.

She turned away after one glance, bile rising in her throat.

An hour later, police cars lined the driveway, and the area below had been cleaned and cordoned off.

Everyone in the Moore household gave their statements.

Given Stanley’s standing and the clear evidence pointing to suicide, the police wrapped up the investigation quickly.

Wilson had taken his

own life.

After the officers left, Xavier’s security detail escorted a few of Wilson’s closest aides away.

Stanley promptly assembled the entire household staff. With a few calm, concise instructions, he appointed a new head of household to assume Wilson’s duties, as though it were just another routine change.

Life in the house seemed to return to normal almost immediately. Throughout it all, Stanley’s expression never wavered.

Watching the satisfied, almost serene smile that finally settled on his face, Teresa felt a deep, cold shiver run down her spine.

Call Xavier.

After everyone else had cleared the room, Stanley spoke again, his tone even and composed,

Teresa knew what he wanted, but her hands trembled as she pulled out her phone. She fumbled, and it clattered onto the floor at Stanley’s feet.

Wilson’s death had been too sudden, too visceral. She was still shaking.

As she bent to pick it up, Stanley leaned down first. His wrinkled hand brushed lightly over the screen before handing it back to her.

You know, Teresathis time, I have you to thank for how things turned out.
