Chapter 196 Giving Blond
Chapter 196 Giving Blood
From Jacob’s tone, Teresa could easily piece together how Xavier was really doing.
He’d been shot–no matter how tough he was, that kind of injury meant he was in a bad way.

Jacob glanced toward Xavier’s room once more. The man was still on an IV, his face flushed with fever, showing no signs of regaining consciousness anytime soon.
Xavier hadn’t wanted the Moores to know about his condition and had made Jacob promise not to say a word.
Jacob gave a quiet “Mm” in response over the phone.
Teresa looked toward Stanley, waiting for his signal.
Stanley gave a slight tilt of his chin, and Teresa immediately understood what he wanted.
“Dad wants to come over and see Xavier, Isabella, and the child,” she said, her voice firm.
“Ms. Moore, now really isn’t a good time,” Jacob cut in anxiously, almost as soon as the words left her mouth.
“And why is that?” Teresa’s voice remained cool, but her eyes stayed fixed on Stanley.
Jacob hesitated. “Mr. Moore… he said everything can wait until he’s availab
“If Xavier isn’t available, then I’ll just visit my great–grandson instead.”
Stanley’s voice came from beside her–not loud, but clear enough to carry through the receiver.
Jacob tried again. “Mr. Stanley Moore, please-
“Jacob, this isn’t up for discussion. Consider it a heads–up.”
Teresa knew Stanley had made up his mind to see the boy, and she didn’t want Jacob complicating things, so she spoke over bim.
“You’d better get things ready on your end.”
Without waiting for a reply, she ended the call.

On the other end, Jacob felt a knot tighten in his stomach. He quickly stepped out of Xavier’s room and into the hallway.
Breakfast had just wrapped up. Isabella was walking out of the dining room with Skyler when she nearly bumped into Jacob, whose worried expression was impossible to miss.
“Jacob, what’s going on?” Isabella began, surprised.
She’d assumed with how quiet the house was that Xavier had already left for work. But if that was the case, why was Jacob still here–and looking so unsettled?
“Mrs. Moore, please pack a few things for yourself and Jason. I need to take you both to a hotel nearby for a little while.”
The urgency in his voice made Isabella’s chest tighten. “What happened?“.

“Mr. Stanley Moore is on his way,” Jacob admitted, knowing he couldn’t sidestep the question. “He wants to see the boy” Skyler was standing close to Isabella. When he heard Jacob’s words, he glanced up at his mother.
A flicker of worry passed over Isabella’s face. Skyler’s small features immediately hardened with frustration.
“Where’s Xavier?” Isabella pressed, her tone sharper now.
Why was Jacob the one trying to move them out?
“Mr. Moore…” Jacob paused briefly, then said, “He’s had a high fever since last night. Still asleep.”
He kept it vague, but the truth was, Xavier had been in rough shape since the previous evening
Even so, in front of Isabella, Xavier had pushed thh,
keeping up appearances.”
He’d even called Harry over in the middle of the night and made him swear not to mention how bad things really were.
Isabella’s heart sank. She had noticed something was off about Xavier yesterday–the way he moved, the careful distance he kept.
But after how cold he’d been toward her, she’d forced herself to push those thoughts aside.
“Jason, sweetie, go get changed,” Isabella said softly, passing Skyler over to the nanny nearby. The boy went along quietly, though his little shoulders were stiff with tension.
“Mrs. Moore…” Jacob started, but Isabella was already turning away.
“I’m going to check on him.”
As soon as Skyler was out of sight, she hurried down the hall toward Xavier’s bedroom before Jacob could stop her.
The door was slightly ajar. Isabella pushed it open and went straight to the bed area.
Xavier lay completely still, so motionless that from a distance, he hardly seemed to be breathing.
Isabella took in the unnatural flush across his face and moved closer, gently pressing her fingers to the side of his neck to check his pulse.
Thankfully, it was steady–weaker than it should be, but there.
Frowning, she carefully shifted the fabric near his shoulder. The skin from his collarbone up to his neck was swollen and inflamed.
The infection was worse than she’d imagined.
Xavier’s skin burned under her touch. Even the air from his parted lips felt hot against her hand.
Harry had prescribed a strong course of antibiotics. It was the right call medically, but prolonged high doses came with their own risks–and in the gaps between, fevers could spike even higher, dragging out the pain.
