When it succeeded, the procedure altered her blood, granting it a natural antibody that could rapidly regenerate blood cells. It wasn’t just a potential breakthrough for terminal blood disorders; it also accelerated the body’s recovery, dulled pain, and sped up wound healing.
But she had been the trial’s only success.
That meant its success was also its biggest secret–one that absolutely couldn’t get out
After a moment’s hesitation, Isabella pressed the plunger of the syringe.
She watched Xavier’s brow tense, her heart nearly jumping into her throat. Thankfully, he didn’t wake. His Adam’s apple bobbed slowly as he swallowed the liquid bit by bit.

Quickly, Isabella grabbed a tissue and
The Crimson hue of blood seeped into
the cracks of his dry lips, giving him a dangerously beautiful, almost deathly pallor.
Without thinking, Isabella let her fingers lightly brush against Xavier’s cheek.
It felt like it had been forever since she’d looked at him this closely.
Eight years might as well have been yesterday, and yet time seemed to have left no mark on him at all.
A bitter smile touched her lips. After all this time, she still hadn’t managed to reclaim what she’d left with Xavier.
Sometimes you think you’ve been through hell and finally moved/on, only to look back and realize you’ve been running in circles- right back where you started.
As Isabella began to stand, she felt a slight tug holding her back.
Her breath hitched. She glanced down to see Xavier’s hand clutching the hem of her shirt.
But he wasn’t awake. His eyelids fluttered restlessly, lips parting and closing silently as if he were trapped in a nightmare.
Carefully, she pried his fingers loose and tucked his hand back under the covers.

Leaning closer, she could hear him mumbling something under his breath.
It sounded like two words, repeated like a mantra, “Mine.”
His voice faded gradually until it was nothing more than a whisper, then silence.
Isabella stepped out of Xavier’s room, and Jacob was right there waiting.
Skyler had just changed. One of the housemaids had also packed a bag with some essentials for Isabella. Holding Skyler with one hand and taking the bag with the other, she followed Jacob quickly to the car.
But just as they pulled out of the driveway, a line of vehicles cut them off, blocking the road ahead.

Jacob hit the horn, but the cars didn’t budge.
“Turn back.”
Jacob was about to get out and confront them when Isabella spoke, her voice calm.
Her expression was composed, but the palm holding Skyler’s hand was darap with sweat.
“It’s the Moore family. They’ve been posted out here since early morning.”
Her words made it click for Jacob. He slapped his forehead, feeling like a fool.
If Teresa had called to warn him, of course they had this planned out.
Xavier’s security team was all stationed at Moore Manor. Now, the only people left at the house were him and the staff–there was no way they could put up a fight.
Right then, Jacob’s phone rang again.
He answered, then shot a work
look toward Isabella. It was Teresa again.
Every move they made was being watched by Stanley.
“Dad will be here in ten minutes. Don’t get in the way.”
That was all the woman said before hanging up.
With their exit blocked, Jacob and Isabella had no choice but to return to the house. The mood inside was tense.
Stanley was coming for the child.
He was a naturally suspicious man. A single paternity test wouldn’t be enough to settle his doubts.
“Mrs. Moore, you and Jason should go upstairs and lock the bedroom door.”
After a moment of thought, Jacob turned to Isabella, his tone serious.
“The staff and I will stay down here. We’ll tell them you and the boy aren’t feeling well and are resting with Mr. Moore. That way, with him involved, Stanley probably won’t push too hard.”
The housemaids nodded in agreement. “That’s smart! Mrs. Moore, please go up and stay in the room–don’t come out!”
“Exactly. Mr. Moore’s here in the house. They shouldn’t be able to force anything.”
The staff was worried for Isabella too. Last time the Moores had shown up in full force to take her, Xavier had ended up hurt.
