He didn’t hesitate. “Yes, Mr. Moore.”

That same evening, at Moore Manor.
Stanley returned to his room, dismissed Teresa, and asked Gordon to stay behind.
Teresa was concerned that Stanley might actually be unwell-after all, he wasn’t getting any
younger.
Even if he hadn’t shown it openly, Wilson’s death must have shaken him. And after Xavier’s defiant display earlier… it was enough to wear down anyone, no matter how strong.
But it didn’t take long for Teresa to realize she had misread the situation.
Gordon emerged from Stanley’s room barely ten minutes later, holding a small clear zip-lock bag. When he noticed Teresa still waiting outside, he instinctively tucked it behind his back.
“Ms. Moore, you’re still here?”
Everything about him-his expression, his tone-seemed uneasy.
Teresa’s gaze turned sharp. “What’s that in your hand?”
“N-nothing important.”
His voice wavered. Before he could continue, Teresa reached for the bag.
Caught off guard, Gordon nearly let her take it, but at the last second he pulled away.
“Ms. Moore, I’m just following Mr. Moore’s instructions. Don’t make this harder than it has to be.”
Seeing he wasn’t getting through, Gordon raised his voice slightly.
Just then, Stanley called firmly from inside the room, “Teresa.”
Seizing the opportunity, Gordon hurried off down the hall.
A cold weight settled in Teresa’s stomach. Unless she was mistaken, what Gordon had been holding… was hair.

She entered Stanley’s room to find him relaxed on the bed, taking occasional puffs from a vape pen. He didn’t look like a grieving grandfather, nor an old man on the verge of collapse from anger.
It clicked then, and Teresa almost laughed at her own naivety. She’d been the one missing the bigger picture all along.
“What was Gordon carrying?”
Even so, she needed to hear it from him directly.
Stanley glanced her way and exhaled slowly. “You saw it, didn’t you?”
Teresa tried to smile, but couldn’t.
That hair had to belong to Isabella’s son. All Gordon had to do was snag a strand from some unnoticed corner of the room-easy enough.
A child’s short, distinct hair wouldn’t be hard for someone like Gordon to identify and collect.
So Stanley hadn’t been after people at all.
He knew Xavier too well. If Xavier was determined to protect Isabella and the boy, forcing the issue wouldn’t have yielded reliable results anyway. Instead, Stanley had brought Gordon along and played the long game-stepping back to move forward, letting everyone think he’d conceded while quietly getting exactly what he wanted.
“If this was your plan from the start, why confront Isabella today and provoke Xavier like that?”
That part still didn’t make sense to Teresa.
Stanley had always cared about appearances and hated losing face. Picking a fight he couldn’t win with Xavier wasn’t like him.
After long pause, Stanley’s mouth quivered slightly before curling into a thin, almost imperceptible smile. He shook his head.
“After all the years you’ve spent with me, you’ve only ever seen half the play.”
Teresa didn’t get her answer, but one thing was clear: Stanley’s actions today served another purpose.
What was he really planning?
Or rather, what was he planning for Xavier and Isabella?

When Teresa didn’t leave, Stanley placed the vape pen back in the nightstand drawer and shifted to lie down.
“When will the results be ready?”
Teresa asked, resignation creeping into her voice.
This time Stanley gave a straight reply. “Tomorrow night.”
Teresa pressed further, “And if it turns out the boy isn’t a Moore by blood… what then?”
Stanley’s voice was steady. “As long as I’m still here, anything that’s out of line in this family will be set right.”
Teresa didn’t know what else to say. She turned and left Stanley’s room quietly, only realizing once outside that her palms were damp with sweat.
Back in her own room, she hurriedly gathered a few things, grabbed her car keys, and headed
out.
But before she could even step off the front porch of the estate, Stanley’s security team stopped her.
“Ms. Moore, where are you headed?”
She didn’t slow down. “Since when do I report my comings and goings to you? Step aside.”
“Sorry, Ms. Moore. You’re not allowed to leave right now.”
Someone caught her arm, holding her firmly in place. She bristled. “Have you lost your minds? Take your hands off me!”
The guards exchanged uneasy looks. “Ms. Moore, these are Mr. Moore’s orders. We can’t go against them.”
Teresa was furious. “That’s bull. My father said nothing to me. Or have you forgotten what happened to Wilson?”
At that, the guard immediately released her arm, but more men moved in to block the doorway.
“We’re not lying to you, Ms. Moore. You can check with Mr. Moore yourself. He said… you’re not to leave until the day after tomorrow.”
