Skyler thought back to that morning–the way the man had yanked her into the car. His conclusion was that the boss of Moore Group was bullying her.
Xavier replied, confused, “Who’s your mom?”
Is this kid for real?
A kid taking down Moore Group’s entire security system? No way.
Skyler replied almost immediately, “You don’t get to know my mom’s name. Tell your this is a warning. If he messes with my mom again, I’ll wipe all your data.”
Then he closed the chat.
Not gonna rat out Mom.
boss-
Xavier’s fingers tightened on the keyboard. Whoever this was–either a lunatic or a child.
Jacob stated, “Mr. Moore, we’ve got a location. The department store next door.”
“Bring them in.” Xavier slammed the laptop shut.
Jacob was already out the door with his team.
Skyler sat in a coffee shop on the department store’s ground floor, drinking milk and working on a slice of cake.
He finished the last bite, drained his cup, then closed his laptop with a satisfied sigh. He slung his bag over his shoulder, grabbed his skateboard, and headed out.
By then, Jacob had several security teams blocking every exit of the building. Anyone carrying a computer was getting stopped.
Skyler stepped out of the mall and ran straight into two guards.
They spotted the laptop bag on his back and hesitated. “Hey, kid. Is that a computer in your bag?”
Skyler nodded, blinking up at them with wide, innocent eyes. “Yeah.”

Chapter 33 Put Skyler on the Phone
“Mind if we take a look?” one of them asked, keeping his voice friendly.
Skyler shook his head. “Can’t. My mom says not to hand over valuables to strangers.”

The two guards exchanged a glance. He was so cute. They’d feel terrible pushing it. Besides, there was no way a little kid was the hacker, right?
Before they could decide what to do, a flashy figure darted over, scooped Skyler up, and took off running.
The guards jolted, thinking it was a kidnapper, and gave chase, but the woman jumped straight into a waiting car with the kid in her arms.
Once inside, Skyler reached up and snatched Hannah’s sunglasses off her face. “Hannah, what are you doing here? And how’d you even find me?”
She’d prepared a whole lecture for him, but somehow, he’d turned it around on her.
Hannah smiled–the kind of smile that made Skyler nervous. She pulled a small key from her pocket–the one Skyler had given Lydia. “Traded,” she said slowly, “for my favorite limited- edition bag.”
Skyler swallowed hard.

It wasn’t until midnight that Jacob’s team returned. They’d searched every inch of the building. Not a single person carrying a computer fit the profile.
The hacker had vanished.
Back in Xavier’s office, the tension was suffocating. No one dared make a sound.
Finally, someone spoke up. “Actually, there was one person we didn’t get to check. But…”
“But what?” Jacob pressed. “Spit it out.”
“It was a kid–maybe five years old. We didn’t get a chance to search him before a woman took him away,” the guard said.
“A kid?” Jacob frowned. “That’s ridiculous.” But Xavier cut in, “Do you have a picture of him?”
Whoever he’d been chatting with kept mentioning “my mom.” Xavier had assumed it was some kind of joke.

“Actually, yeah. I snapped a photo. It’s a little blurry, though.” The guard handed his phone to Xavier.
The photo showed a woman in a patterned dress and denim jacket, her back to the camera, a little boy perched on her shoulder.
The boy’s face was mostly hidden–just a blurry side profile. But something about it tugged at Xavier’s memory.
He zoomed in, staring at those eyes.
Jason?
