Chapter 38 Not to Touch Her
Xavier felt the blood rush to his head. He was irritated and had no idea what to do with himself.
Her attitude gave him pause.
Wait a minute… Is she misunderstanding something?

“Then what’s between me and Sander has nothing to do with you, either.” Isabella let out a deliberate laugh. “I like him. If you don’t divorce me, I’ll cheat on you again–want to see if I will?”
Seeing that she wasn’t letting up, Xavier cracked his knuckles.
He held back the urge to strangle her right there and let out a cold laugh. “Someone like Sander? Even if you had the nerve to be with him, he wouldn’t dare.”
“What do you mean?” Isabella’s heart skipped a beat.
Suddenly, she thought about the call she’d gotten from Sander.
Has Xavier done something to him?
Just then, a knock came at the door. Linda’s voice followed. “Xavier…”
The second Xavier’s focus slipped, Isabella shoved him hard and ran to open the door.
Linda froze. She saw them standing there, one behind the other, with Isabella’s hair and clothes a mess, and a flicker of awkwardness crossed her face.
She said, “Am I interrupting? I can come back later…”
“No.” Before Isabella could speak, Xavier’s voice cut in.
He stepped forward, brushed past Isabella, and shot Linda a cold look. “What is it?”
Isabella nearly laughed in anger.
So the childhood crush shows up, and suddenly, first–come, first–served doesn’t matter?
“Oh, it’s like this…”
“I don’t want to interrupt your business.” Isabella jumped in before Linda could finish. “Just sign my divorce papers. I’ve got things to do, and I’m in a hurry.”
Linda’s eyes flickered.
Divorce… papers? She is the one asking for a divorce from Xavier?
“My patience is running out. Stop bringing this up.” Xavier grabbed Isabella by the neck and forced her body back toward him.
His voice was low and dangerous, his cold breath sending a chill straight through her bones.
She shoved at his chest, but it was useless. Furious, she yanked his tie and pulled him down.

“So is mine. I played your revenge game with you. Now I’m done.” Her eyes locked on his. “Xavier, either sign and we call it even, or I stop playing nice and leave you with nothing.”
Xavier’s face went dark. He pressed a hand to her waist, pulling her closer, but it only tangled them up more. “Fine. Let’s see.”
Isabella leaned back, pressing his injured arm against the desk. His jaw tightened with the pain.
“Xavier, Isabella, please talk this out…” Linda tried to step between them, but Xavier stopped her coldly. “This doesn’t involve you. Stay back.”
Before he could say anything else, Isabella cut in again.
“Isn’t Linda your childhood sweetheart?” she fired off. “Even if she’s unlikable, even if she’s fake, she’s the one you wanted.
“You can’t even clean up your own mess, and you still want to string me along? Are you addicted to being a jerk, or is your confidence just that delusional?”
Isabella was furious.
All he knows is using his strength to push me around.
Five years ago, she’d loved the wrong person and let herself be treated like this–and back then, she’d convinced herself she liked it.
But five years later? He still hadn’t changed and still thought he could push her around.
Does he really think I’m scared of him? That I won’t fight back?
If he pushes me too far, my family will make him pay.
Isabella let out everything she’d been holding in for days. But after a few cutting words, she stopped.
Even though she was furious, the sight of his bloodshot eyes and pale face brought last night back–how he’d saved her.
God, I’m pathetic.
“Isabella, even if you’re upset, this isn’t the place for a tantrum.” Linda’s face went from red to pale, then to red again.
