“Who’s scared? If I die, you’re coming with me, Xavier. I’ve got the worst luck in the world running into a psycho like you. I’ll haunt you even if I’m dead, and you’ll pay me back in my next life–I’ll kill you then, too!” Isabella snapped, her voice trembling with feigned bravado.

I can’t let him mock me like this.

No sooner had the words left her mouth than she regretted them.

If she really pushed Xavier over the edge and he killed her, her three poor kids would be left without a mother.

“Stubborn till the end.” Xavier let out a cold huff.

He tilted his head, his face inches from Isabella’s, and said lowly, “Beg me now, and I might just let this slide. I’m not one to hold a grudge over petty things.”

“I…” The words “I’m sorry” were almost out of her mouth.

Isabella bit her lip hard.

Why am I such a coward? I feared Xavier five years ago, and now I fear him–and death–just as much.

After a long silence, Isabella didn’t say another word. Instead, she let out a quiet, miserable sob, trying her best to hold it back.

“Are you crying?” Xavier’s heart jolted in surprise.

She had always put her own interests first. He’d thought for sure she’d put on a fake act and beg for mercy.

Before Xavier could finish speaking, she slammed on his back.

Isabella had hit him with everything she had, and Xavier nearly grunted in pain.

“Isabella… What the hell are you doing?” he asked.

“You bastard! Go pick on Linda if you’re so tough! Haven’t you tormented me long enough?” Isabella screamed through her tears. hitting Xavier wildly.

She was so caught up in her rage that she nearly tumbled right off him.

Xavier couldn’t hold her back with one hand. He set her down on the ground and wrapped both arms tightly around her, pinning her gently but firmly to his chest

“I’m sorry,” he said.

Isabella was still fuming when a soft, quiet voice brushed against her ear and neck.

“What did you say?” Isabella thought she was imagining things.

Xavier? Apologize to me? That’s impossible.

He’s only ever spoken to me with demands and contempt, never caring how I felt..

“Xavier, are you a control freak? Let me out of this car right now!” she roared.

Xavier drove recklessly fast, not answering a single word she said. In less than 20 minutes, they were back at his house.

The car door opened again, and Xavier lifted Isabella up.

Her struggling was useless against his overwhelming strength.

Isabella snapped, “Xavier! You kidnapper! How dare you take away my freedom!”

“I’m taking you home,” Xavier said calmly, walking quickly toward the bedroom.

Isabella puffed out her cheeks in fury. “Home? Are you joking, Xavier? I told you we’re going to court. I already moved all my stuff

out.”
