Xavier demanded, utterly confused, “What makes you think Linda and I have been flirting?”
Isabella kept calling Linda his long–time love, and he genuinely had no idea what she was talking about.

Isabella snapped, unable to hold back her anger any longer, “I saw everything in the hotel hallway during the Moore Group banquet five years ago.”
He’s making me say this out loud–there’s no point in hiding it anymore.
A complicated flicker crossed Xavier’s eyes.
His mind flashed back to that night five years prior.
He’d just gotten off the plane when he received a text from Isabella.
Normally, when he rarely came home, Isabella would have dinner ready and fill him in on work.
But the banquet had come up, so Isabella had texted to remind him she’d be home late, worried he’d forget.
(avier had seen the message but hadn’t replied, as he usually did.
He’d taken a taxi straight to the banquet instead.
As it happened, Linda had just moved back to the country then. She’d seemed to know his schedule, because she’d shown up at he hotel entrance right as he arrived.
They’d only exchanged a quick glance, barely said a word, and then he’d left.
Some unexpected crisis had come up afterward, though, so he’d never even made it to the banquet.
Then the next morning, Linda had been sitting by his bed in nothing but a thin towel, her eyes red from crying.
de’d handled that situation immediately, though.
And the circumstances that night had been extremely unusual. If that was what (sabella was referring to, he really couldn’t deny it.
sabella scoffed as Xavier’s face grew darker and darker, “Xavier, how can you be this fake? You used to be so straightforward–you iked someone, or you didn’t. Linda might not be a good person, but she bent over backward for you. Now you’re dragging her into his just for your own selfish needs, trying to turn her into the me from back then?”
After a long pause, Xavier said in a low, grim voice, “Whatever there was between Linda and me… it was a mistake.”
“A mistake?” Isabella shot back coldly. “What kind of mistake has two people kissing each other?”
“Kissing?” Xavier frowned sharply. “You’re saying Linda and I kissed?”
Isabella stared at his confused expression, finding it completely insincere. “Yes, kissing. You two kissed right in front of me in that hallway during the banquet. I didn’t call you out on it then–don’t tell me you don’t remember”
“Isabella, listen carefully. I’m only going to say this once.” Xavier took a deep breath and spoke slowly, each word deliberate. “Linda and I have known each other since we were kids, and we did… make one mistake. But that’s it. There’s nothing else between us.”

His tone was dead serious, the veins in his neck standing out as he fought to keep himself from snapping
For a split second, Isabella almost believed him.
She laughed bitterly, “This is the first time I’ve seen someone cheat and deny it so smoothly. Everyone knows you two are childhood sweethearts–she’s the one you’ve always loved. You hate me for coming between you, so as soon as she got back, yo wanted me dead. You won’t even let me divorce you.”
“You!” Xavier began, then broke into a cough.
Isabella’s words left him completely dumbfounded.
Where has she gotten all these ridiculous ideas?
She is making up charges just to blame me.
He coughed hard and grabbed the coffee table for support, nearly losing his balance.
Isabella blinked.
‘s he feeling sick again? His face is all red…
But why should I care about him right now? He’s only getting what he deserves.
Suddenly, Xavier let out a laugh that sent chills down Isabella’s spine.
