Hannah jolted in shock. She and Skyler exchanged a quick look.

Seconds later, she turned off the speaker, spun around, and dashed out of the room. Skyler chased after her at once, but Hanna blocked her outside the bedroom door and slammed it shut.

The loud bang made Isabella frown. “Is someone there with you?”

“Nothing, just closing the door. Keep talking,” Hannah replied.

Isabella hesitated, confused. “Since when do our doors make that much noise?”

Her family hated loud sounds, so all their doors were extra quiet–they never banged like that, no matter how hard they shut.

“Well… I’m hanging out at a friend’s place,” Hannah stammered, then hurried to change the subject. “You said you need a lawye What happened?”

Isabella quickly explained what was going on with Xavier. “We’ve reached the point of no return. A peaceful divorce isn’t going t work, so I’m filing for divorce in court.”

“I told you peaceful divorce was never gonna happen,” Hannah snapped. “That jerk never deserved any mercy.”

Just thinking about Xavier locking Isabella up made Hannah’s blood boil.

Isabella sighed quietly, “I never thought things would get this bad.”

“Why even hire a lawyer?” Hannah said. “I’ll just call Grandpa. Let our family handle him.”

“No.” Isabella tensed up and refused at once. “If I do that, my real identity here will be exposed. Grandpa will never let me come back, and Jason’s still in treatment.”

Hannah’s voice turned sharp and cold. “Do you still love him?”

Isabella’s excuses sounded reasonable, but to Hannah, they were just that–excuses.

In her eyes, the only reason Isabella wanted a quiet divorce was that she still cared about Xavier.
