Chapter 56 That Was Back Then
Teresa was completely struck speechless.
She had to admit it–Xavier was just like Stanley: cold, ruthless, and utterly unfeeling.

Years ago, in his fight for control of Moore Group, Xavier had stripped Tanner of all his authority and seized power. With a brutal few could match, he’d turned Moore Group into an all–dominating force across the country in just a few years.
Teresa knew she could never be that bold or unforgiving.
“Moore Group might be great, but you raised a wolf. Aren’t you afraid he’ll let someone else take everything… or even turn on you?” Teresa snapped coldly, then stepped out of the room calmly.
She hadn’t gone far when she heard a heavy crash, like something being hurled across the room.
Teresa offered a faint, satisfied smile.
Meanwhile, Xavier was in a meeting.
After landing the huge investment, the Whitman family had formally ended their partnership with Moore Group, and the shock h sent Moore Group’s stock falling.
The situation was critical, yet everyone noticed Xavier seemed to have fallen asleep.
He rested one hand against his forehead, breathing evenly and completely still.
At first, everyone thought he was deep in thought, but he’d held the same pose for far too long.
“Mr. Moore?” someone called softly. Jacob immediately gestured for them to stay quiet.
Jacob normally picked Xavier up at six–thirty sharp every morning. But that morning, he’d gotten a call from Xavier as soon as he reached the villa, telling him to head over right away.
When Jacob got into the car, he found Xavier already in the back seat.
What was even stranger was that Xavier hadn’t changed his clothes.
He never wore the same suit two days in a row.
It was clear Xavier hadn’t gone home the night before. And neither Linda nor Isabella had shown up at the office that day
Jacob had never seen Xavier like this.
In his eyes, Xavier was invincible–no weaknesses, no bad calls, no moments of doubt of tiredness
Jacob had almost forgotten that Xavier was just a human being, one who could get worn out and hurt like anyone else.
Everyone understood, and the meeting room went completely silent.
Not a single person slacked off; all of them quietly watched Xavier sleep.

Why? Because he was unbelievably handsome when he slept.
Moments like this were extremely rare.

If Xavier wasn’t so terrifyingly intimidating normally, every man and woman at Moore Group would have gone crazy over him.
Half an hour later, a cold breeze drifted through the window. Xavier’s eyelashes fluttered, and he slowly opened his eyes.
“Where were we?” He didn’t show the slightest hint of embarrassment at having fallen asleep in the meeting.
“Whitman Properties‘ stock is skyrocketing–someone’s probably manipulating it,” Jacob reminded him.
The employee who’d been presenting blushed and stood up nervously to keep going.
After the meeting, Jacob saw Xavier was still reading documents and quickly made him a cup of coffee. “Mr. Moore, this should pi you up.”
He knew once Xavier was at the office, he’d never go home to rest.
Xavier only sniffed it, then frowned and set it aside.
“Not the right taste?” Jacob asked sharply.
Even though Xavier’s sense of taste was weak, he was still picky about coffee aroma.
“Yeah,” Xavier said, his eyes on the papers. “It’s nothing like the coffee Isabella makes.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, his eyes flickered in surprise.
Why do I keep bringing her up without thinking?
Jacob’s heart sank, too.
It was true–Xavier had barely touched coffee in five years.
After Linda came to the company, she’d taken over bringing Xavier drinks, but she’d never made him coffee once.
Jacob wasn’t sure if Linda just hated making it or if Xavier had turned it down right away.
“Should I ask Mrs. Moore how she makes it, then fix you another cup?” he asked.
Xavier glanced at Jacob, but his look wasn’t angry or disgusted. Jacob couldn’t read what he meant.
“Never mind,” Zavier said after a long pause. “She wouldn’t tell you.”
Jacob thought Xavier was overthinking it. “Mrs. Moore isn’t that selfish. If it’s something good for you, or something you like, she cares a lot–even if someone else mentions it…”
