Chapter 93 History Between Them
“I don’t have a dad right now.”
Skyler suddenly tilted his head and said it in a small, innocent voice. The air in the room instantly chilled.
A flicker of surprise passed through Harry’s eyes as he glanced toward Hannah.
“He’s just being silly–his father isn’t around much these days, so I guess he feels like he doesn’t have one nearby,” Hannah said with an awkward laugh.
She hadn’t expected Skyler to throw her under the bus like that, especially not now. Her words came out through nearly gritted teeth.
But Harry seemed to understand more than she wanted him to. Before he could reply, Hannah had already finished speaking. She grabbed Skyler’s hand and hurried away without looking back.
A single mom?
Harry felt a slight tug somewhere in his chest.
When Isabella arrived at Harry’s office, the door was partly open and the room was empty.
Neither Xavier nor Harry was inside.
“Mrs. Moore.”
Just as Isabella was about to call Xavier, she heard Rachel’s voice from behind her. She turned to find Rachel standing there with someone else–Linda.
When Linda spotted Isabella, her expression shifted briefly into something uncomfortable. But within seconds, she managed a thin, polite smile.
“Isabella, what a surprise. Xavier asked me to assist Ms. Hale with Noah’s care. I’m only here in a supporting role.”
Isabella met Linda’s gaze coolly, offering no response.
She wasn’t particularly curious why Xavier had arranged for Linda to be there. Knowing him, he probably didn’t trust Rachel to handle things alone and had sent someone to keep an eye on the situation. That sounded exactly like something he’d do.

From the looks of it, even if Linda wasn’t the woman he loved, she still held a solid measure of his trust.
It reminded Isabella of her own past–Xavier had once entrusted her with running the entire Moore Group, but in the end, it had all been about utility, not affection.
When Linda received no reply, the hallway fell into an uneasy silence.
“Well, since you two already know each other, I’ll skip the introductions,” Rachel jumped in, breaking the quiet. “Mrs. Moore, are you here to see Mr. Moore?”
“No,” Isabella replied evenly. “I’m here to see Noah. But I’m not sure which room he’s in.”
“He’s in VIP Suite Ten, in the inpatient wing. It’s a bit tucked away–the signage isn’t very clear. Give me just a moment to drop off these files, and I can walk you over…”
“Why don’t I take Isabella instead, Dr. Hale? You must be busy with your rounds.”

He was much thinner than she remembered from years ago. Back then, he’d been showing real progress… What had happened to set him back so far?
“Isabella, try not to worry too much. Ms. Hale is already preparing a specialized treatment plan. Noah’s vitals have been more stable these past few days.”
Linda kept her voice low, updating Isabella as though they were confidantes.
Ignoring her, Isabella moved closer and gently took Noah’s wrist in her hand.
The caregiver stood up quickly. “Please, let me handle that. We shouldn’t disturb him.”
Isabella glanced at her, then rested her fingers lightly against Noah’s pulse point.
Watching her, Linda’s eyes narrowed almost imperceptibly.
Was she… checking his pulse?
“Out.”
Isabella’s voice was cool and clear.
“I’m sorry?” Linda blinked.
