The waiter’s legs trembled so fiercely that he nearly collapsed, his body shaking uncontrollably as tears welled up and spilled down his cheeks. “I’ll tell you everything, I swear! It was a woman—she ordered me to hand that bottle of wine to that gentleman over there and to deliver a note to Ms. Harrington. I’m not lying!” His voice cracked under the weight of his fear.
Hans recoiled sharply at the revelation, a chill running through him.
Around them, whispers rippled through the gathered crowd, like a sudden gust stirring leaves. Nobody had anticipated this twist—someone had deliberately set a trap targeting Sebastian’s fiancée. Whoever orchestrated this was clearly no ordinary adversary.
“A woman?” Sebastian’s eyebrows knitted tightly, his gaze sharpening.
“Yes,” the waiter stammered, struggling to steady his voice. “Not very tall… short hair… dressed in a black suit… black-rimmed glasses. She promised me five hundred thousand if I helped her pull it off.”
Sebastian’s face darkened as he turned to Foster. “Find out who she is.”
“Right away, sir.” Foster nodded and quickly slipped away to begin his investigation.
With Foster gone, Lillian scanned the room with a cold, calculating smile curling her lips. “Since someone went to such lengths to plot against me, I doubt they’d just vanish without watching how this unfolds. The mastermind is almost certainly still here, observing this little spectacle.”
Her voice was calm but laced with a cutting edge. “As you might have noticed, I practice traditional medicine—and, unfortunately for some, I’m quite skilled at it. Given that Mr. Ryan was drugged, it’s safe to assume whoever did this is familiar with that substance.”
She tilted her head slightly, her tone light yet steely. “Coincidentally, I carry a special solution with me. Anyone who’s come into contact with that drug will show traces the moment this liquid touches their skin. So, I apologize, but I have a strict rule: I don’t let things slide. If no one admits to it, we’ll have to test everyone.”
“I’ll go first,” Cameron said without hesitation, stepping forward confidently. “Just tell me what to do.”
Lillian’s lips curved into a polite, almost serene smile. “It’s simple. Just bring me a basin of clean water.”
“On it. One moment,” Cameron replied, hurrying off.
