Lillian paused briefly, uncertainty flickering in her eyes before she gave a subtle nod of approval. The men exchanged quiet looks among themselves but remained silent, the tension hanging lightly in the air.

Noticing that none of them had reached for their forks yet, Noreen broke the silence with a teasing tone. “This is my very first attempt at cooking, so the least you can do is pretend to enjoy it. Otherwise, my heart might just break.”

Lillian was the first to overcome her hesitation. She picked up a shrimp delicately, without any sign of doubt, and placed it in her mouth. She chewed slowly, savoring the taste.

All eyes were fixed on her, waiting anxiously for her verdict.

She maintained a composed expression and gave a slight nod of approval. “It’s not bad at all. The flavor is clean, not oily, and the shrimp is sweet with a pleasant, springy texture.”

Cameron’s curiosity got the better of him as he watched Lillian’s reaction. Without hesitation, he grabbed his fork, speared a shrimp, and tasted it.

For a brief moment, his face froze, but then it brightened into an exaggerated smile of delight. “Delicious—really good! Noreen, who would have thought you had such talent? You might just rival the world’s top chefs.”

Noreen’s face lit up with surprise and joy at his praise. She hadn’t expected her first culinary effort to be so well received.

Emboldened by Cameron’s compliment, Manny and Fawks each took a tentative bite.

But as soon as the food touched their tongues, both of them rushed to the trash bin, spitting it out with grimaces of disgust. They pointed accusingly at Cameron. “You’re cruel!”

Manny and Fawks could only stare at him in stunned disbelief, unable to find words to respond.

Meanwhile, Sebastian reached over and ruffled Lillian’s hair affectionately. This little fox was always up to something, he thought with a fond smile.
