Chapter 97 Noreen’s Display

Downstairs, in the auction hall, servers carried in raw jade stones one after another.

In the private box where Lilian and the others sat, the wall–length screen came to life, revealing the scene below. That’s when Lilian realized–it was a jade stone gambling auction.

The auction began. A half–gambled raw stone was pushed onto the stage. One side had already been cut open, revealing a patch of rich, green jade. Judging from the vibrant hue, it looked very likely to be imperial green glass type. The rest of the stone’s surface showed promise–an incredibly rare piece.

As soon as the host announced the start, the room below erupted in a frenzy of bids.

Lilian glanced at the screen. Ever since she had reached the eighth level of her power, she could see deeper than before. With just a thought, she could penetrate a stone’s interior.

“Anything catch your eye?” Sebastian asked, noticing her intrigued expression.

Lilian shook her head with a smile. “Not really. I don’t know much about raw jade. I just go with my gut. Nothing’s jumped out at me yet.”

Her insights came from her special ability, not formal study. When it came to technical knowledge, she really wasn’t an expert.

Sebastian’s lips curled into a soft smile. “Doesn’t matter. If something catches your eye, just tell me. Even if it turns out empty, we’re just here to have fun.”

The men around them immediately erupted with playful groans. Qin Zheng laughed and teased, “Sebastian, how much dog food are you planning to feed us today? That one sentence could keep us full for a month.”

Noreen’s expression darkened as she watched. It was all because of this wretched girl. In the past, everyone always focused on her. But now? No one even noticed her. Still, she wasn’t worried. Soon enough, they’d all see–only she was worthy of Sebastian.

Putting on a sweet smile, she spoke up, “Ms. Lilian, if you need help, feel free to ask me. I’ve attended many of these jade auctions with Sebastian. I even studied in private just so I wouldn’t lose to him.”

“Emerald stones,” she continued, slipping into lecture mode, “are categorized by surface types–like yellow salt skin, white salt skin, and black sand skin. Each has distinct surface characteristics. You assess them by grain size, color, cracks, moss patterns, and so on. These help identify if there’s jade inside, like ivy, pine flowers, or veining–all key indicators.”

To her credit, Noreen really had done her homework. Her expertise impressed the others, who listened intently.

Seeing their admiration, Noreen grew smug. She glanced at Lilian with increasing disdain.

Then she looked at the screen as the eighth stone was brought onstage. With an air of authority, she said, “Now take this one–no veining, no pine flowers, no moss. That means the chance of it containing jade is extremely low.”

Her explanation earned immediate praise.

“Whoa, Noreen, didn’t know you had this in you.”

“Yeah, talk about a hidden talent. That’s practically expert–level stuff.”

Blushing modestly, Noreen said, “Stop it. It’s only because I’ve been to so many of these events with you guys. I didn’t want to fall behind, so I studied up.”

The Dune family had interests in the jewelry business, but Noreen had never cared much about it. She’d only forced herself to learn for Sebastian. Tedious as it was, it had clearly paid off.

Lilian smirked. “Wow, Ms. Noreen, you really are professional. I usually go by instinct. If I like the look of a stone, that’s enough for me.” She turned to Sebastian. “I like this one.”

Sure, Noreen knew her stuff–but what good was theory against actual x–ray vision?
