Chapter 116 I think I just fell in love with a demoness
e of the soldiers, still trembling from the display, stared at the doorway where Joanna had just walked through. He gulped, his eyes wide. “I think I just fell in love with a demoness,” he muttered under his breath.
Julian, whose ears caught the comment, immediately narrowed his eyes. Without a word, he flicked his wrist and shot a small, crackling bolt of blue electricity right at the soldier’s boots. The concrete sparked violently
where it struck.
“Back off.” Julian commanded, his voice dropping into his cold, unyielding CEO tone that brooked absolutely no argument.
The soldier jumped a foot in the air, completely freaking out as he scrambled backward. “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, sir!” he stammered, raising his hands in immediate apology, entirely terrified of the lightning- wielding man standing before him.
Jake stepped in quickly to ease the tension, placing a firm hand on Julian’s shoulder to get him to lower his hand. “Easy, man,” Jake said with a small chuckle, before turning back to William and his trembling squad. “Don’t mind him, guys. But seriously, don’t call our boss a demoness if you want to keep your boots un- charred. She just likes efficiency.”
William let out a nervous laugh, visibly relieved by Jake’s intervention, and quickly waved his hands at his men to settle down. “Right, noted. No demon like comments. Understood.”
The soldier who had made the remark nodded frantically, still staring at the scorch mark by his feet, while Julian simply rolled his shoulders and stepped back, his cold CEO glare finally softening into a standard, distant expression. With the immediate danger and the sudden internal drama cleared, the showroom fell into a quiet lull as everyone caught their breath.
When Joanna walked back into the room, she handed bottles of clean water to her team. William’s squad sat down across from them, pulling out their own water rations to drink.
William took a long swig, his sunny demeanor fading into deep exhaustion. “Felton is gone, Jake,” he said, staring at the floor. “The zombies completely destroyed the entire city in just a single day. My squad hasn’t slept since the collapse. We’ve been battling the undead the whole way here.”
“I’m sorry, Will,” Jake said grimly. He looked at his buddy, then at the stunned faces of the other soldiers. “Look, I know what you guys saw out there makes no sense. But after the virus hit, things changed. People are starting to gain superpowers. We call it awakening.”
William blinked, looking from Jake to Julian and then back to Joanna. “Superpowers? You mean what you guys did out there… that’s happening to other people too?”
“Yeah, it’s likely happening to allow the human race to survive, but it’s rare,” Jake answered, leaning his back against the display counter. “Right now, it’s our only real edge. But what about you guys? What’s the word on the official military operations? Who is running the show?”
William let out a bitter, hollow laugh, staring blankly into his water bottle. “The military is a complete mess right now, Jake. We are having massive internal fighting at the upper levels. Command is fracturing because everyone is trying to see who is going to control the remaining armed forces.”
Jake’s expression darkened as he looked at Julian, the grim reality of a collapsing chain of command settling over the room.

Chapter 116 I think I just fell in love with a demoness
Who are you planning to join in Aurora, Will?” Joanna asked, her voice dropping its playful edge.

Wiam took a small sip of his water. “Commander Briggs. But I’ve heard a few whispers that several corrupt commanders are targeting him. The upper ranks are trying to strip his authority to take over his
resources.”
He set the bottle down, his expression hardening. “That’s the real reason I took my squad and left our post for Aurora. I wanted to warn the old commander before those traitors blindside him.”
“There is also another problem,” William added, his face darkening. “Briggs’ old commander, Jax, just teamed up with a real bad character. Someone named Jensen.”
Julian instantly tensed, his knuckles turning white as he gripped his weapons. “You mean Elliot Jensen?”
“Yeah,” William replied, blinking at the sudden reaction. “That’s the guy. Do you know him?”
Joanna tensed, and a heavy, suffocating atmosphere slams into the group. Her flat demeanor vanished, replaced by a cold, lethal focus that made even William’s battle-hardened squad shudder. She gave a subtle nod to Julian telling him to be quiet.
“Yeah, we know Elliot,” Joanna said, her voice dripping with dangerous familiarity.
Joanna stood up, dusting off her clean tactical uniform and deliberately shifting the topic away from the ominous name of Elliot Jensen.
“Once you make it to Aurora, you need to warn your commander about something else,” Joanna said, her voice dropping into that flat, authoritative tone. “If he leads the soldiers into Eldon, he absolutely needs to stay out of the main mall. Most of the survivors in that area are gathering there, and the density of the infected following them is too high for your forces to handle. If your convoy goes in, you will die along with most of your men. My best advice is to skip Eldon entirely and route to Dillon. They have a massive stockpile of resources you can secure safely.”
