Chapter 185 Dillon Joanna’s Home Town

Jae navigated the tactical SUV through the outer boundary of Dillon, tires crunching over shattered glass and frozen debris. The familiar sights of Joanna’s hometown were heavily warped by the apocalypse. Overturned sedans, abandoned minivans, and rusted city buses choked the three-lane highway, creating a mechanical maze.

“Keep us moving, Jake!” Joanna called out from the front passenger

seat.

She opened her door and stepped out onto the running board of the moving vehicle. Leaning forward, she grabbed the rear bumper of a jackknifed delivery truck blocking their path. Veins bulged slightly on hef forearms as her level-three strength surged. With a massive heave, Joanna single-handedly shoved the multi-ton vehicle across the asphalt, creating a loud metallic screech and clearing a path just wide enough for Jake to squeeze the heavy SUV through. She swung back into the front seat seamlessly.

On the sides of the road, the commotion drew serious attention. Dozens of stray zombies, frozen stiff but driven by hunger, stumbled out from the ditches and abandoned storefronts, crowding the narrowed pathway ahead.

“Clear them out!” Joanna ordered.

Before the SUV even came to a complete halt, the doors flew open. The team jumped out of the car to fight the stray zombies, fanning out across the icy asphalt with deadly synchronization.

“Target practice,” Briggs grunted as his boots hit the road.

He flexed his newly upgraded level-two muscles, a sudden orange glow illuminating the dark fabric of his uniform. With a low grunt, he slammed his palms together, channeling his newly enhanced element. A concentrated jet of bright, high-temperature flame erupted from his hands, instantly melting the ice on the road and engulfing a cluster of rushing zombies. The infected collapsed into ash before they could even reach the vehicle. Beside him, Jolie’s vines whipped out of her sleeves like green lightning, piercing through the foreheads of three zombies simultaneously and tossing their bodies into the snow.

Julian stepped past the rear bumper, his posture relaxed but his eyes sharp. When a small cluster of fast- moving infected rushed the rear tire, he didn’t even flinch. He simply flicked his wrist. A blue arc of electricity danced across his knuckles, leaping to the wet asphalt and frying the group instantly in a burst of smelling smoke.

Rachel glided toward the edge of the concrete barrier, her eyes flashing with a sharp, silver light. Level three energy thrummed powerfully through her mind. She locked onto a pack of five sprint-capable zombies lunging forward. With a sudden flex of her mental telepathy, she blasted their minds, locking their central nervous systems. The zombies instantly froze mid-stride, turning into rigid, helpless statues on the asphalt. Rachel stepped forward, swinging a heavy, gleaming hatchet with fluid precision, effortlessly cutting down the immobilized targets one by one.

“Level three energy feels much more efficient,” Rachel noted, wiping the blade as the team piled back into the three-row SUV. “The mental strain of freezing these strays is barely registering.”

In the middle row, Caleb sat in deep, silent meditation, his unblinking eyes staring blankly out the window. His face was tense and his breathing shallow as his mind actively sorted through the tangled premonitions he had tried to pull from the future during his hot spring soak.

Joanna turned her head slightly to look back at him through the rows as Jake hit the gas. She had a choice to

make, and she wanted the dreamweaver’s immediate impression. “Caleb,” Joanna asked, breaking the silence of the vehicle, “should we hit the distribution center first, or the canning factory?”

He mind weighed the two options carefully. The canning factory was a stop Briggs specifically wanted to make, but her own sights were locked onto the massive distribution center. She remembered it vividly from her prophetic, pre-apocalypse dreams. In that nightmare timeline, she had only managed to scavenge a few meager bags of food before a group of rough-looking men arrived and violently took over the facility, forcing her to run for her life.

This time, things were entirely different. Backed by a powered-up squad and heavy elemental firepower, she wanted to see if she could secure the entire, massive haul before anyone else could claim it. The remaining locations on the map could easily wait for the day after.

Caleb broke out of his trance. He shifted his gaze from the window, looking directly at her and then toward the rest of the group inside the vehicle. The weight of his expression instantly made the air inside the SUV feel heavier.

“Do you remember the top fighters of the apocalypse that your dream showed you?” Caleb asked, his voice steady but hollow.
