Chapter 195 Off To Save Leo

Jonna bolted upright in her bed, gasping for air. Her skin was covered in a cold, sticky sweat, and her heart hammered against her ribs. The raw horror of Leo’s dying scream still rang loudly in her ears.
Shaking, she checked her watch. It read 7:00 AM.
Panic surged through her. She quickly got out of bed, threw on her gear, and hurried downstairs.
The open living area was thick with quiet, concentrated intensity. Her core team was already up and absorbing crystals. They sat in a loose circle across the sofa and folding chairs, faces locked in deep focus. Julian sat near the hallway, his posture rigid and professional as he pulled power from his crystal.
Needing to clear her head, Joanna walked into the kitchen to get something to eat.
“You saw it too, didn’t you?”
Caleb stood by the counter, holding a freshly poured mug of coffee. He walked over silently and handed i to her, his expression heavy with a shared, haunted exhaustion. He kept his voice to a strict whisper.
“You saw the dream, right?” Caleb asked quietly.
Joanna wrapped her hands around the warm mug. “Yes,” she whispered, her throat tight.
“Do you know when it will happen?”
Caleb looked apologetic, rubbing the back of his neck. “The timeline is not perfectly accurate. Visions are fluid.” He paused, his expression hardening. “But I think those men were scouting Leo’s place last night. It’s why the connection was so violent, and why I was able to sense their intent.”
He stepped closer, his tone turning urgent. “If you want to save him… we should leave soon.”
Grabbing a muffin for the road, Joanna marched into the living room. Her sudden entrance broke the silence, drawing every eye away from the glowing crystals.
“Listen up,” Joanna announced, her voice leaving no room for argument. “Leo is in trouble today. We need to leave now”
The team paused, the remaining tendrils of light fading back into the stones as they looked up at her, waiting for her orders.
The rest of the team moved without a word, transitioning from deep meditation to combat readiness in seconds. “Let’s exit my storage space and into the bunker,” Joanna said.
With a sharp focus of her will, she pulled everyone out. In a blink of an eye, the reality of the living room dissolved, and they arrived instantly inside the cool, reinforced walls of the underground bunker.
Nodding quickly at Nana, Ryan, and his family, who were already preparing for the day, Joanna led her team straight through the heavy doors and exited the bunker into the courtyard.
The gray morning air was heavy, and the large tactical tent set up in the courtyard was already in active use. Inside, Warren and Michelle were hunched over tactical maps, working alongside Briggs and Will while eating breakfast.

Joanna marched straight into the tent, cutting through the low murmur of their conversation. “Warren,
chelle, pack up your gear. You’re coming with me to Leo’s cottage right now.”
The scientist and the physician looked up, startled by the sudden command, but the sheer gravity in Joanna’s voice left no room for hesitation. They immediately set down their food and grabbed their medical and scientific field kits.
Turning on her heel, Joanna locked eyes with the rest of her waiting squad. “Jake, Raven-with me. The res of you stay here and I will come back when we are done. Let’s move!”
The group hurried across the courtyard toward the massive, heavily armored transport vehicle parked at the perimeter. Jake hit the hydraulic release, lowering the thick rear ramp of the Beast. One by one, the five of them scrambled into the reinforced hold as the engine started. Caleb walked over to talk to the group and update what Joanna was rushing out for.
On the road, Jake expertly drove to Leo’s house with very little problems. It looks like the team cleared out most of the zombies here. They pulled back up to Leo’s farmhouse, but this time, Joanna had them park farther back on the main road to keep their approach hidden. Back at the bunker, Julian stayed behind to coordinate the core absorption, while Caleb hung back with the remaining group to explain exactly where Joanna was going and the danger Leo was facing.
